SITE WORK PROCEDURE

EARTHWORK BACKFILLING AND COMPACTION

1.0 OBJECTIVE
1.1 To define the requirement and describe the procedure for
earthwork,
Backfilling and compaction works for the utility building

2.0 SCOPE
2.1 Applicable to all the buildings and utilities.

3.2 Project standard Spec.
3.3 British Standard BS test
4.0 GENERAL:
4.1 Approval of location and setting out is to be obtained from TEG engineer
prior to proceeding with BACKFILLING works.
4.2 Proper work permit should be in place before commencing the works

5.0 BACKFILLING PREPARATION, EXECUTION AND INSPECTION:

5.1 BACKFILLING WORK PREPARATION:

5.1.1 Relevant approved drawing(s) to be reviewed and


identify the drawings ID to be mentioned in the Work
inspection request (WIR).
5.1.2 All repair work for concrete surface if any should
have been done and inspected before start backfilling.
5.1.2 Bed level of backfilled area will be checked and
removed all foreign materials not needed (i.e. debris,
shuttering materials if any.)
5.1.3 Necessary equipment & tools (loader, plate
compactor, and bobcat) will be arranged to be ready for the
work
5.1.4 A sample from proposed backfill material to be tested
in the Arabs center before watering to identify the optimum
moisture content, the maximum dry density, gradation and
the percentage of the fine which should conform to project
specs. And / or agreed proposed material submitted to the
client Rep.
5.2 BACKFILLING EXECUTION:

5.2.1 Total depth of backfill is 2.5 m will executed in to


steps sand backfilling for the first 1.55 meter and selected
material for the rest.

5.2.2 Backfilling will be executed in layers. Layer should be


maximum 25 cm in height for the depth less than 2 m
5.2.3 A steel rod should be driven in to the ground if
possible to indicate the level of the layers. Paint marks could
be used in walls or concrete sites if any - to indicate the
layer level as well
5.2.4 Backfill materials shall be stocked in piles and the
appropriate water quantity as specified by the laboratory test
report will be added.
5.2.5 Soil must be spread in layers in accordance to the
layer thickness indicated, each layer shall be compacted
either by plate or roller compactor depending of the size of
the area to be filled
5.2.6 At the end of each layer the compaction test shall be
carried out to determine the compaction percentage

5.3 BACKFILLING INSPECTION:

5.3.1 Lab test result done before backfilling will form the
reference to be conceded for compaction inspection.
5.3.2 Material inspection request form (MIR) shall be issued
at the start of the dumping material activity.
5.3.3 Work inspection request form (WIR) shall be issued at
the start of the backfilling activity to identify the location and
the expected time for inspection

5.3.4 A compaction test shall be performed for each layer


finished and before starting the next layer
