Significant Differences
There are number of significant differences between how OBIA 7.9.6.4 & OBIA 11.1.1.7.1 works.
In the 7.9.6 release, the ETL workflows, mappings, configuration etc are done using Informatica
Powercenter, the Data Admin Console and manually editing configuration files. In the 11.1.1.7.1
release, the ETL workflows, mappings, configuration etc are done using ODI, Configuration
Manager and Functional Setup Manager.
Some of the highlights of differences are as follows
ETL tool is now embedded with ODI and load plans are generated and run using a JEE
agent via the ODI studio and therefore there is no further need for a Informatica or DAC server.
Informatica mappings, mapplets and workflows have also now been replaced by prebuilt ODI content which includes repository objects such as packaged ETL mappings, Interfaces
and scenarios
Domain mappings now done within the Configuration Manager, lookup files are no
longer needed and a lot of the domain mappings that were previously done in CSV files are also
no longer required. ( There are some exceptions where CSV files are required)
The web applications introduced as part of OBIA 11.1.1.7.1 is a significant change from the
OBIA 7.9.6.X versions; it offers homogeneity and better way of managing configurations.
BIACM
BIACM is a Web application for setting up and maintaining an Oracle Business Intelligence
Applications environment and provides the following features:
FSM
FSM enables you to manage and perform functional configuration tasks for configuring
Offerings and provides the following features:
FSM for Oracle BI Applications is different from the Oracle Fusion Functional
Setup Manager:
FSM for Oracle BI Applications includes only the features applicable for Oracle BI Applications
functional setup.
FSM for Oracle BI Applications has lighter Tech stack dependencies.
users have access to the list of functional setup tasks assigned to them, and can execute setup
tasks (that is, using the Go to Task option in FSM).
BI Applications Implementation Manager
Users with the BI Applications Implementation Manager Duty Role have access to the Oracle BI
Applications Configuration Manager Overview page and dialogs for the Export and Import of
Setup Data. In FSM, these users have access to Configure Offerings and Manage
Implementation Projects UIs, but they cannot execute setup tasks (that is, they do not have
access to the Go to Task option in FSM).
I believe this is just a beginning of new chapter in OBIA Analytical Application world, many more
to come in very near future.
