ADMISSION NOTICE FOR Ph.D. COURSE WORK PROGRAMME: 2015-16

Applications in prescribed form, downloadable from University website: www.buruniv.ac.in, are invited for
admission to Ph.D. Course Work Programme during the year 2015-2016 in the subjects mentioned below from
21.09.2015 to 07.10.2015, between 11a.m. and 2 p.m. on all working days. Information sheet, containing
other relevant details and Hall Ticket have to be downloaded along with application form.
Application fees should be remitted in mode of Demand Draft of Rs. 450/- (Rupees four hundred and fifty
only) in favour of The Finance Officer, the University of Burdwan, payable at SBI B.U. branch.

Eligibility: Candidates holding Masters Degree in one of the above subjects or in allied subject, with at least
having 55% marks or marks of similar value may apply for admission to the Ph. D. Course Work Programme.
No candidates having M.A./M.Sc. or any P.G. degree from the open university and through Distance
Education mode would be eligible to apply for pursuing a Ph.D. Degree. Selection in Course Work Programme
shall not ensure admission to Ph. D Programme.

Admission to Ph. D. Course Work Programme in Arts, Commerce etc. for the year 2015-2016
General information to the candidates:
(i)

Candidates holding Regular Masters Degree in one of the subjects mentioned below or in allied subject,
with at least having 55% marks or marks of similar value may apply for admission to the Ph. D. Course
Work Programme. No candidates having M.A./M.Sc. or any P.G. degree from the open university and
through Distance Education mode would be eligible to apply for pursuing a Ph.D. Degree. Selection in
Course Work Programme shall not ensure admission to Ph. D Programme.
(ii)

Candidates will be selected for admission to Course Work Programme through written test and/or Personal
interview, as the case may be.

(iii) The mere fact that a candidate, having the minimum qualifying marks in the written test, will not, by
itself, ensure his/her admission to the programme.
(iv) All qualified candidates in the written test will be required to qualify in the subsequent viva-voce for
admission to course work.
(v)

Selection in Course Work Programme shall not ensure admission to Ph. D Programme.

(vi) No candidate, except J.R.F. or S.R.F., State Funded fellow/UGC Fellow will be entitled to fellowship
money. He/she will have to carry on the course work, research work at his/her own expense under
prescribed norms & conditions which will be intimated in due course.

Mode of selection:
For selection at the Ph. D. course work, a candidate has to obtain minimum qualifying marks of 50% or as may be
determined by the appropriate authority at the written test. Qualified candidate, at the written test, be compulsorily
required to appear at the interview test & must obtain minimum 50% marks or as may be determined by appropriate
authority.

Who are exempted from appearing at the written test:


The candidate who have an M. Phil. /L.L.M. or a Degree deemed equivalent having at least 6 years of Undergraduate and Post-graduate studies, or who have qualified in the NET/SET/GATE/SLET/UGC(JRF)/CSIR(JRF) or
any other examinations that may be deemed equivalent by the appropriate authority or Teacher Fellowship holder are
exempted from appearing at the written test for Ph. D. course work Programme.
Where to submit the prescribed application form:
All the application forms are to be submitted to the Office of the Faculty Council (Arts etc.), at Rajbati Campus,
Burdwan University between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m..

Candidates must enclose with the form self attested photo-copies of mark sheets of all the public examinations passed
by them up to the Masters/ Post Masters level and S.C.*/S.T.* certificate, if any, by the last date of submission of
application form. Two self attested copies of recent stamp size photograph also to be enclosed.

Issue of Admit Card:


The applicants will be required to collect Admit Cards from the Office of the Faculty Council (Arts etc.) at time of
submitting the application forms.

Relevant Certificate must conform to West Bengal Govt. Memo No. 1813-BCW/MR-94/11 dated 20th june, 2001.
Candidates claiming reservation against SC/ST quota of seats must submit relevant caste certificates issued in
their favour by one of the authorities listed below:
(i) Deputy Collector of Land Revenue, Kolkata Collector of Stamp Revenue, Kolkata Metropolitan Magistrate,
Kolkata, Addl. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, 1st Class
Stipendiary Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Sub- Divisional Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Officer, Deputy
Collector, Addl. District Magistrate, Collector and District magistrate within their respective jurisdictions in
case of candidates claiming to be Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe and ordinarily residing within such
jurisdictions.

(ii) Deputy Director, Backward Classes Welfare, West Bengal and Commissioner, Backward Classes Welfare,West
Bengal in the case of candidates claiming to be Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe residing in any part of W.B.
