PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT

Before Practicum
Practicum is a practical practice that is one of component that is a must in
teaching profession. As a future teacher, practicum give a chance for teacher trainee
to analysis, implement their skills and take a responsibility in the classroom and
school. For practicum, we are required to implement and experiment those skills in a
real classroom and real school situation. This programme, on this stage focus on the
teaching and learning process with lecturer`s and cooperating teacher`s guidance.
This is done through the sharing and discussion throughout the practicum.
Before undergoing this period of practical training, we have been to school
four times for School Based Experience during the first until fourth semester. That
was the requirement that need to be done before we do the practicum programme.
We also have been given a lecture from practicum unit about this practicum
programme.
School placement have been fixed by unit Practicum. However, we have been
given a choices first to choose what school that we want to go for practicum. This is
a first come first serve because the school were limited nearby the college and all of
us were in rush trying to get the school that we want. Some of the school only accept
two people and the others 4 people. For our schools of choice, we managed to get it
and the school is Sekolah Kebangsaan Pelabuhan Klang, Pelabuhan Klang.
Before practicum, we decided to go to the school location in order to find the way
and look at the school and its condition. We also record the time for us to travel from
hostel until we arrived at the school because it make easier for us to estimate the
time to prepare before we are going to school. For this practicum we have to rent a
house and a car.

During Practicum
I am Chawaruth Ket Keaw, have been doing my practicum session for
semester 5 which is the first phase in Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Bharu,
Kampung Bharu, Kuala Lumpur. This practicum session time is for one month
starting 31 March until 25 April. I believe that I have been following, attending, and
getting involved on all the activity that have been done in the school during that one
month time.
One of the objectives of this practicum is to allow us to familiarize ourselves to
the real classroom environment in school. In addition, getting to know the early
learning of students is also one of the main objectives of this practicum. In this first
practicum we are required to teach for at least 5 hours per week. I have been given a
year 4 class.
I come to realize that the curriculum and curriculum specification is one of the
important items in the check list after checking the requirements of the task. The
most important thing about this practicum is to build up our confidence level in order
to control the class as well as to deliver the lesson well.

Apart from that, us the teachers trainee are also hoped to be able to analyze
and

understand

the

students

characteristics,

classroom

management

and

implementation of different theories and context in teaching and learning, interaction

with the teachers and students and also doing reflection for every events or
situations that have taken place.
Thus, my early revelation in Sk kampung Bharu has given a positive impact
on me to build my personality, sense of responsibility and good qualities as a teacher
to be.
After Practicum
One new knowledge that I have gained during this practicum phase, how to
manage my time efficiently. Apart from that, I have also learnt how to manage a
classroom effectively. Last but not least, all the data collected are analyzed and
reported through the reflection that I have done. One complete portfolio about this
practicum will be done and will be sent to the lecturer. This portfolio needs to have
the task result that has been done during the practicum. Meanwhile, the reflection
and interaction session with the lecturer will be done to discuss the end result of this
first phase of practicum.
