We, the opposition team strongly disagree with this statement because we
believe that

As first speaker of the opposition team, I will be explaining about
homework can help to improve students academic achievement
and homework can lead to positive relationship between parents
and children.

that HOMEWORK IS BENEFICIAL TO STUDENTS.
Now I will present my points against the resolution HOMEWORK IS
DETRIMENTAL TO STUDENTS.
Ladies and gentlemen,
I believe that homework can help students to attain good academic
achievement. Harris Cooper, an educational psychologist included
seventeen research reports that contained a total of 48 comparisons
between students who did and did not receive homework. About 70% of
these found that homework was associated with higher students
achievement. Cooper said that the research synthesis that he led showed
the positive correlation was much stronger for secondary students than
those in elementary school.
He also claims that homework has immediate effects on students
which it helps students to retain information and academic materials

better. Critical thinking and concepts formation can be increased while it

also helps to improve information processing and enrich the curriculum.
Homework helps students to revise what they had been taught each
day and it is good for students because it helps students to keep
practicing what they have learnt. It also helps students to discover the
problems that they have in certain aspects of studies and detect their
weaknesses. Through homework, teachers will be able to track students
progress and discover their students weak points and help the needy
students to improve on it. Hence, homework can help students to have
better understanding on their studies which will lead them for better
academic result.
Ladies and gentlemen, moving on to my second point,
Homework is essential for students because it helps parents to
become involved with their childs education hence sustain good parentschildren relationship. According to a study made by Nancy Paulu, she
indicates that parents can also acquire benefits from homework. It gives
parents the opportunity to bond on projects, share ideas, read together
and share work ethics with their children.
Nancy Paulu also mentions in her research that many parents value
the chance to see what their child is studying. Parents can keep up to date
with their childs grades and abilities and then be advocates for their kids
and support them. It can be concluded that parents involvement with
their children homework helps to improve their relationship and can
provide students with motivation support.
Before I end my argument, I would like to refute some of the points
introduced by the government today.

Before I take my seat ladies and gentlemen, I want to stress that the
resolution before the house today homework is detrimental to
students MUST AND WILL FALL! Why ladies and gentlemen? Because
my team believe that homework helps students to have better

engagement with their studies which lead to good achievement and

improves the relationship between parents and their children. With it
