standingcommitteeoftheSouthAustralianMedicinesAdvisoryCommittee(SAMAC)toensurethat
allpublichospitalsprovideaconsistentapproachtothemanagementofHighCostMedicines.The
mainroleofSAMEPistoreviewtheuseofHighCostMedicines,foralistofmedicinesbeing
reviewedorpreviouslyreviewed,seetheHighCostMedicinereviewspage.

Theirrole
TheroleofSAMEPincludes:
Evaluatingthesafety,theclinicalefficacyandcosteffectivenessofhighcostmedicines
proposedforinclusionintheStatewideHighCostMedicinesFormulary.
Initiatingreviewstoevaluatethesafetyandeffectivenessofhighcostmedicineswhichare
notregisteredforusewithinAustraliaforthepurposeofprovidingguidancetolocal
hospitaldrugcommitteeswithregardstoconsiderationofindividualpatientuserequests.
MakingrecommendationstoSAMACwithregardstowhichhighcostmedicinesshouldbe
madeavailableinSouthAustralianpublichospitalsandonthepotentialplaceintherapyof
thesemedicines.
FacilitatingthemonitoringofhighcostmedicineuseinSouthAustralianpublichospitals.
