and Interviewer. as the head of the workplace climate subcommittee, conducted
five of six focus groups and wove responses into the task forces report. 20072008.
U.S. Latino & Latina WWII Oral History Projectwork has been ongoing, since
organizing the May 26 and 27, 2000 conference in Austin, one in Washington,
DC Sept. 12, 2004, another in Austin on March 25, 2006. Activities have entailed
raising funds, finding scholars to participate, organize workshops and symposia,
selecting manuscripts, editing, revising and working with the publishers. Have
also developed a new model to quickly index tapes and make interviews more
accessible to participating scholars.

to present. Have hired dozens of student workers, and recent graduates to help
carry out the many tasks and duties of the project, from organizing Veterans Day
celebrations, creating agendas for workshop, learning FileMaker Pro for the
project database, writing business letters, soliciting interview subjects, etc.
Students get career advice, and a daily dose of journalism discussion.
Investigative Reporters and Editors Boot Camp, raised money for
transportation to this 1-day workshop, University of Missouri, at Columbia, for 12
students, self and one other journalism professor. March 23-25, 2001.
Freedom Forum Doctoral Fellowship Finalists Meeting-- One of two former Freedom
Forum fellows who successfully finished the program within 26 months allotted,
selected to address 1999 finalists, Chapel Hill, N.C., Feb. 7, 1999.

Critique, organized a one-day session during which professionals and journalism

Juan Gonzalez visit, as a Carnegie distinguished lecturer. Gonzalez is an
investigative reporter and columnist with the New York Daily News and co-host
of Democracy Now! He made two classroom presentations. April 18, 2008.
Hector Cant visit, as a Carnegie Distinguished lecturer. Cant is a syndicated
cartoonist, creator of Baldo. His spoke to one class and made a public
presentation entitled Comic Strip as Social Commentary. Sept. 11, 2007.
Ernest Sotomayor visit. Initiated and enlisted support of College of
Communications Honors Program to bring in Long Island Editor of
Newsday.com who was also the volunteer president of UNITY: Journalists of
