SESI 4 : Professionalism Revisited

INTIPATI KERTAS KERJA :

1. Common characteristics of all professions:

• Service has to be up first

• Librarians have to be proactive and make policy that will benefit the
users

• Librarians will do a good job if they could teach the university

students on how to do a citation.

• Librarianship will become strong and will become an impact to the

society

2. Reganathan’s 5 Laws of Library Science

• Any book that hasn’t been used must be bringing out to promote
and use it.

• Any books bought are meant to be used as it will become cost

effective.

• Identify the needs of the books, readers and its interest.

• Save time for users to locate

• Getting to know the users by knowing the specific terms, etc.

3. Quality Management Principles

• Focus on the users

o Customers are the keys

o Have to be done according to the documentation

o It is necessary for improvements and lose out from other

o Hard facts are needed to counter bad perceptions

o Relationships should be based on ethics

Q – Who plays an important roles of preserving the data between

Archive and Library

A – Records are one kind of data. Things that are created by the
government and anything that is not for public consumption are kept in
the National Archive and in the National Library are mostly that can be
attainable or viewable for the public.

Sharing /Opinion:

Information skills should be implemented in all faculties especially for

new students. E.g. UMS

A: Scholar librarians should sit and discuss together and should be

implemented not just the new students but as well as the final students
especially the ones that are doing their final research/projects thus
creating an impact and making the evidence.
