GENERAL
General
The Console port on the Media Gateway front panel is for maintenance
and configuration. It can be monitored during boot and a wide range of
parameters on the Media Gateway can be configured using the Console
port in boot mode. After a boot-up the Linux Operating System (OS) will
be active and a Linux shell will be accessible by using the Console port.
This document only covers a few commands and parameters.
Warning! The Console port is for maintenance only. You should have
high knowledge about the Media Gateway before using the Console
port.
Communication Setup
The Media Gateway Console port communicates with 9600 bits/sec, 8
data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit. Use any applicable software for serial
console communication (for example, Kermit or Hyper terminal).
Configuration
3.1
Prerequisites
The Media Gateway needs to access the Telephony Server for the
system to be able to boot up to a fully running Telephony system. The
access is also needed for the Media Gateway to be able to update the
necessary boot modules. Before starting and booting the Media
Gateway software a correct IP-address for eth0 and all related
IP-addresses, like Default Gateway and NFS Server, also need to be
configured.
Note: If the Telephony Server is using the default address 192.168.1.10
to the Media Gateway, no configuration of the Media Gateway is
needed. It is already configured from factory.
The second interface, eth1, on the Media Gateway is set by the Telephony Server.
3.2
Procedures
3.2.1
Connect an I/O (keyboard and monitor) unit to the Console port with
a serial cable.
When promted Hit any key before CR to abort press the space
bar and <enter>.
3.2.2
Change IP-Address
Enter the command setpar eth0_ip <IP-address>/<netmask in CIDR
format> Example: setpar eth0_ip 192.168.5.35/24
To check the new values enter the command dispar . Example: dispar
Output example: ROJ_rev* R2B ROJ_num* ROJ 208 0031/1 ROJ_ser*
T013122888 eth0_mac* 00:01:EC:B4:42:58 eth1_mac*

T013154369 eth0_ip 192.168.5.35/24 eth1_ip 192.168.1.160/28
Note: If some parameters are not specified in the configuration area the
default values are used by the software.
