School Direct Information Day

Ever considered a career in teaching? This is an ideal opportunity to find out about Liverpool
Hope Universitys School Direct initial teacher training programmes starting in September
2016.
This information event is an excellent opportunity for prospective trainees to learn more
about the training programmes we offer, how to apply and the financial support available. You
will learn about our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in the early years, primary and secondary
sectors to help you decide on the route that is best for you.
School partners will highlight the key features of different training routes, as well as how to
submit a strong application. You will have an opportunity to talk with tutors, school partners
and to hear first-hand about life in the classroom from our School Direct trainees. This event
is free to attend.

11:30am School Direct finance - Mark Pringle, Student Funds Manager
The financial bursaries, fees and support for trainee teachers will be outlined including who
is eligible for financial support as well as the amount you can expect to receive dependent on
your previous qualifications and the course you apply for.

12:00pm Applying through UCAS - Sue Cronin, Deputy Head, School of Teacher
Education (Partnerships)
When to apply, how to fill in your applications and who to ask for references will all be
explained to make sure your application for School Direct is successful.

12:30pm Writing your personal statement - Ginny Mair, Head of Student


Development and Employability
Your personal statement is your opportunity to let your chosen School Direct alliance know
about your qualities, skills and why you want to be a teacher. This session will give you hints
and tips for writing a strong and distinctive personal statement.

1:00pm A School Direct students perspective - St Ambrose Barlow - Sally


Finnemore and Emma Davies
A current School Direct student will be sharing her experiences of the application process,
what to expect at a School Direct interview as well as what the programme itself involves.

1:30pm Is School Direct for me? - Northern Alliance - Allison Ash/Anna Nelson
To find out what a School Direct programme involves, come along to this session which will
explore the professional, academic and personal aspects of the year.

2:00pm Surviving Teacher Training - Deyes High SCITT - Alison Brady and Pauline
Treanor
The teacher training year is always a challenging balancing act between gaining enough
classroom experience and understanding of the theories that underpin your practice. This
session will help you prepare for teacher training and make the most of the year.

2.30pm The Interview Process - Sarah Holland, Wigan and West Lancashire
Catholic School Direct
Sarah will cover the School Direct interview process. Topics included are what to expect from
the interview? Dos and donts for your application and the day, how to make the most of
your application and case study types of questions.
