Weve Exceeded The Expectations

Nathan Theunis
On August 14, 2015 the Academic
Desk hosted its final Academic Service of the year, with the
theme Exceed the Expectations:
In Pursuit of Academic Excellence.

Nhlapo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

The service highlighted the recognition of academic giants, respectively individuals who received a
distinction in their mid-year examination. The award achievers
were namely: Nobuhle Shange,
Ntombizandile Tys, Nathan Theunis, Taurai Muvunzi, Zukiswa Mangcola, Amanda Xentsa and Trinity
Netshokotshoko.

the speaker noted in nostalgia
of his student life, by which he
noted that lectures would first be

Following this, was the reading of

an academic essay, a debate
centered around the topic and a
brief testimony by Frank Kassongo. The procession then was lead
with an insightful and in-depth
analysis of the institutions efforts in
exceeding both the nations and
the worlds expectations. This was
done by guest speaker Dr Chris

Im marvelously impressed by the

presence of top CPUT management and their engagement in a
student society as ours said Ayabonga Nomasayidi, an attendant
at the service. Its an honour to
have the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in our services it was quite
thought provoking said Mvuyisi
Jezile, the former branch chairperson.

An Angelic Experience
Lungiswa Langa
On September 18, 2015 the
Projects & Fundraising Teams,
collectively held a combined
Celebration and Fundraising
Service. The service played
host to an Angelic theme,
where members were kitted

Various activities, namely spiritual dance by Musa
Mahlombe, poetry by Sandisiwe Zito & Joseph Bentil, a
musical item by Shaloma Muzik
Recordings and a reflective
timeline-quiz, lead the procession of the day in anticipation
of the word.
The room was filled with
amazement, laughter and joy
by the magnificent worship.

the relative need of having a

Interview with Themba Masonto
Nearing conclusion, the BOC

of 2015/2016 was introduced.

In effort to raise funds for the
branch End Year Function,
the committee also sold various kinds of food outside the
venue, this branded according
to its catchy Kasi-theme and
menu.
It was a challenge planning
the event due to many challenges however the outcome was as we hoped for as
a team said Mahlatse Malatjie, the former Projects Coordinator.

Q: What would be a significant

highlight of the year for you in
regards to our branch?

Multimedia team, well done and

keep up the good work.

A: I must say that whenever I think

about SCO 2015, the things that
quickly come to mind are the
Academics services that we had.
In one of the services Bro Katlego
spoke to us about the importance
of Balancing Life's Demands
so that we can freely and fully
serve God and live for His glory.
We have had impactful Burning
Pot sessions also, but I will like to
recognise a team that amazes
me every time with their creativity, and that is the Publicity and

Q: Having seen and understood

some of the challenges the former BOC has encountered, what
is your message to the new leaders and BOC of the branch?

Reflection with
the Honourary
President

A: It is clear that every BOC that

comes meets new and very
unique set of challenges. I am
convinced that the new team will
not be facing the same challenges as we did this year. To the new
team, as each one does his/her
part and as you serve the organisation together, remember to
honour your calling as a child of

Q: As the Honorary President of

the branch, how do you think
the branch has done throughout the year in attempting to
achieve its objectives?
A: Allow me to first congratulate the former Chairperson Mr.
Mvuyisi Jezile and his crew for a
great work done as we sailed
through rough seas of 2014/15. I
would like to appreciate as well
our beloved SCO members and
friends for their support through
it all. I believe it was not an easy
term, but the branch has all the
reason to celebrated what is
has achieved. Given the challenges we were faced with, we
could have landed anywhere,
but look at us, we are ending
the year in style and we are saying Ebenezer!

God first. Live your life worthy of

the gospel you have been called
for. Remember as well to walk
with Him as you work. Not just
being busy with His work and His
people but not making time for
Him, wait on Him and rely on Him.
His grace is sufficient; He will not
take you half way, so finish the
race and finish it strong. Philippians 1:6. I believe you can make it.

All Night, Power Night

Joseph Bentil
Friday, October 9, 2015 was a
night to remember. This was the
day we held our, much anticipated, All Night Prayer Service. With
the theme That I May Know Him
and the Power of His Resurrection based on Philippians 3:10
the night started off with a power
packed praise session from our
Praise and Worship team followed
by an uplifting performance from
the choir.

A prayer led by our Spiritual

Growth Coordinator (SGC), Loyiso
Makisi elevated the atmosphere
as the Worship Team then led us
in praise once more, in anticipation of the word. Our speaker for
the night was former SCO Branch
Chairperson 2013/2014, current
PEC (Provincial Executive Committee) SGC and pastor of Pentecostal International House of
Prayer, Mthokozisi Gwebu.

In our first session, the sermon

spoke to us about knowing Jesus
and that the state of our spiritual
life, ether being dead or alive
is dependent on how much we
know Jesus. The first session of
really challenged my faith and
placed in me the desire to want
to know Jesus more and more
each day said Nathan Theunis.
This set the mood for the power that was yet to come in our
second session. After relocating
to the Student Centre and being
instructed by securities to not use
sound equipment, God revealed
to us that He is not bound by venue or instrument.
After a powerful preaching to
conclude the night, we were
visited by God himself through the
manifestation of the Holy Spirit. He
remarkably moved in the lives of
those present. Many were delivered and had encounters. This is a
night many will never forget as it
is the day they experienced God
for themselves.

SCO Has A Giving Hand

Africa Ngantweni
The Word of God says in Deuteronomy 16:17, every man shall
give as he is able, according
to the blessing of the Lord your
God which He has given you. As
SCO we also go into the path of
following and obeying this commandment of God.

Last month, the Social Welfare

(We Care Team) visited the Masikhanye Orphanage in Nyanga,
where they met children from as
young as eight years old, born
or infected with HIV/AIDS. We
were given the opportunity to
help the children escape their
worries and focus on the present
moment which was filled with

Ending The Year Off Right

Mvuyisi Jezile

On October 3, 2015 the Students Christian Organisation

Cape Town Campus held
its wonderful annual End

the CBD. The purpose of this
event was to celebrate a

to recognise its members for

hand the baton over to the

pass the light on to the next

as they were committed to
the Lord in prayer. We know
that the BOC is definitely not
alone and we hope for them
to have a great term of office.
