Clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli security forces in various
parts of the West Bank on Wednesday resulted in dozens of Palestinian
casualties, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported.
The most serious clashes occurred in the area of Beit El, east of Ramallah, and
in the Nablus, Bethlehem and Jericho regions.
Four casualties from live fire were reported in the Nablus area and one live fire
casualty was reported in Bethlehem.
Two Palestinian youths were reported injured, one seriously, by live fire from
IDF troops and settlers east of Bethlehem on Wednesday morning. It is not
known at this stage whether the youths were hit by fire from the IDF or
settlers.
The incident occurred when settlers joined soldiers in attempting to clear
stone-throwing Palestinians from the road leading to the settlement of Tekoa.
Serious clashes in the area of Beit El early Wednesday afternoon left 18 people
wounded by rubber bullets and four from pepper gas inhalation.
In the Jericho region, 30 people were reported injured, 10 of them from rubber
bullets and the rest from gas inhalation.
Wednesday's clashes were the continuation of several weeks of unrest in East
Jerusalem and the West Bank, which has left four Israelis and at least three
Palestinians dead.
Earlier on Wednesday, an IDF soldier was stabbed and his weapon stolen in the
southern Israeli city of Kiryat Gat. The Palestinian assailant was shot dead by
security forces. The soldier was lightly wounded.

That incident took place only hours after a Jewish man was stabbed by a
Palestinian woman in Jerusalem's Old City, sustaining light wounds. The man
fired at his assailant, who was hospitalized in a serious condition.
The Red Crescent reported at least 90 Palestinian casualties from clashes in
East Jerusalem and various parts of the West Bank on Tuesday.
