Sixdayfestivalmarks60yearsofSahityaAkademi

Thehomeforwriters,asSahityaAkademidefinesitself,hasannouncedthatitsannualliteraryfestivalSahiotsavorFestivalofLetterswill
startthisMonday.Thistime,thesixdayfestivalwillbespecialastheAkademicompletes60yearsofexistenceonMarch12.
Thefestivalhasforthefirsttimeincludeddanceandsongperformancesbasedonfolkandpoeticlegaciesofthecountry,asymposiumon
unwrittenlanguagesofIndiaandseveralprogrammesthatwillgoonfrom10a.m.to6p.m.
Thefestivalwillbeginwithanexhibition.Onthefirstevening,24SahityaAkademiAwardwinnersfor2014wouldbepresentedtheawards.
ThistimeBodolanguagewriterUrkhaoGwraBrahmaalongwithMunnawarRanaforUrdu,AdilJussawalaforEnglishandRameshChandra
ShahforHindiwouldbeamongthestarattractions.
Theotherhighlightsincludethewritersmeetondaytwoinwhichtheawardwinningauthorswillspeakabouttheirexperienceswiththe
scholars/writersandothers,andtheyoungwritersmeetinwhichtheakademihaspickedupwritersfromacrossthecountrywhoarebelow
40.Theywillinteractwithaspiringwriters.
Anillustrationworkshopforyoungwritersandapaneldiscussiononhowtowriteforchildrenarealsoonthecards.CalledTheYuva
SahityaandSpinaTalerespectively,thesetwosectionswereinitiatedtwoyearsagoandhavebeenpopularamongvisitors,claimsthe
Akademi.Thistime,some25youngwriterswillcomeforthefestivalandadiscussiononchildrensbooksandillustrationswouldmarkafew
sessions.
Amongsomeseriousdiscussions,athreedaynationalseminaronTheregionandthenationinIndianfictionthatwouldbeinauguratedby
eminentEnglishwriterKiranNagarkarwillbefollowedbyasymposiumonunwrittenlanguagesofIndia.
K.Sreenivasarao,Secretary,SahityaAkademisaid:Thissectionwillseeseveralscholarsandlinguistsfromdifferentpartsofthecountryon
oneplatformforthefirsttime.
Indiahas180languagesandseveralofthemhavenoscripts.Thefestivalthistimewillalsofocusontheselanguages,Sreenivasaraoadded.
TheNortheastregionswillgetanationalplatformunderPurvattori(meaningeasterners)inwhichseveralscholarsandwritersfromthe
NortheastStates,includingawardwinningwriterArupaKalita,wouldinteractwiththevisitors.
Thefestivalthatwillseearound170writersandscholarsincludingProf.GopiChandNarang,AashishNandy,whowillalsodeliveralecture
onthefirstday,UdayNarayanSingh,K.Sachchidananadan,AlokBhallaandGirirajKishoreisopentoall.
Lastyear,thefestivalwasmanagedonashoestringbudgetofRs.14crore.TheAkademisecretarysaid:Wehadforthefirsttimeheld465
literaryprogrammes,andpublished561bookslastyear,apartfrom180bookexhibitionsand102awards.Thisyear,ithadaskedforRs.35
crorefromgovernmentasthebudget.
TheAkademiislookingforgooddirecttranslatorsandwillholdatranslatorsworkshoptodoawaywiththisshortage.
