The subject of this sentence is Major, which is

singular. Thus we have to use WAS Instead of
WERE.
Ram' s salary is much larger than
Shyam.
Here comparison has been made between

Ram's salary and shyam (how can you compare
a salary and a person). So instead of Shyam,
use : Shyam's salary or just use Shyam's
Give me three thousands rupees,

Here there is no need to put S with thousand

or convert it to superlative sentence.

Instead of very tall, use the tallest.

In this type of sentence, if you use superlative,
both the adjectives should be superlative.
