Anti-Heeling-System
The Weser Flow Control Anti Heeling system is basically designed to keep any kind of ships, barges, docks or rigs
upright resp. even keel.
The design is according to the latest technology, and satisfies the standards of all major classification societies.
The system designed as a modular construction principle and contains all necessary components, which are needed
for reliable, long lasting and high efficient operation.
The Weser Flow Control AHS Anti-Heeling System provides manual and automatic heel correction for keeping the
ship upright during cargo operation in harbor.
The system operates independent from the ballast system. The heel measured by an inclinometer generates a
response of the automatic anti-heeling system to right the ship.
The actual heel is indicated on the panel. The anti-heeling control is integrated in the ballast control station.
The Weser Flow Control-AHS is designed according the GL rules, and type approved by the GL (Germanischer Lloyd).

Why Anti-Heeling-System ?- What is Anti-Heeling-System ?

When the ship tilts on any of its sides i.e. port or starboard and doesnt return back to its upright position,
it is known as heeling of the vessel.
Heeling is unsafe for ship, its machineries and people onboard. The main reasons of ships heeling are
strong winds, hard and speedy turns and uneven cargo loading.
Out of the three reasons, the most common cause is uneven cargo loading and unloading.
The Weser Flow Control anti heeling system of a ship automatically detects the heeling angle of the ship
and compensates the same.
This allows the vessels to have continues loading and unloading cargo operation without stopping in
between for list correction. This saves considerable amount time on the port.
In this system, ballast tanks are internally connected to each other by means of pipe lines, automatic
valves and control systems. When the ship heels to any of the sides, the heeling sensor (Inclinometer)
sends the signal for change of ships angle with respect to the ships upright position to the master control
panel. This change in heeling angle is compensated by methods of auto transferring the water from the
heeled side to the other side of the ship, making the vessel upright.
Level control switches are also installed in the ballast tank involved with the anti-heeling system to avoid
low level or over filling and hence over pressurizing of the tanks.
The pump system consists of electrical motor driven water pump, which can be a reversible or non
reversible pump, connected with remote controlled valves that can direct ballast water flow in between
the tanks.

Main Control Cabinet with local operator panel

The main control cabinet for the anti heeling system is designed for wall mounting. The base frame is welded
steel framework which is covered with sheet metal cover plates. The doors are detachable hinged and equipped
with a door looking system. All local operating devises are mounted on the front door. The inlet for cables and
pipes is from the bottom. Pneumatic or hydraulic needed parts are installed in a separated compartment.
Basically is the cabinet for this application equipped with following components:
Anti Heeling Control Cabinet wall mounting type.

Main switch assembly with terminals and circuit breaker

Motor starter combinations for the remote controlled valves
PLC computer control unit (for all automatic control functions)
PLC Controller with MODBUS Interface.
Software package for pump(s) and valve control.
Software package for stability test.
I/O-modules to link controls and commands from and to the control computers.
Local operation panel with:
o Local/Remote selector switch (key switch)
o Indication lamps local/remote operation
o Auto/Manual mode selector switch
o Indication lamps for auto /manual mode
o Start / Stop push buttons
o Delay time selector for setting the start sensitivity
o Pre-Heel selector for setting an pre heel angle to Portside or Starboard.
o Status indication of pumps and valves.

Interface for data transmission Interface MODBUS Ethernet TCP/IP.

Interface (hardwired) to remote operator panels via terminals.
Interface (hardwired) to motor starter cabinet, via terminals and cables.
Inclinometer giving calibrating input into the heeling control system. Mounted into the control
cabinet or in arrangement near control unit rigid to the ships structure.
