Bonded Warehouse
Purpose
This component enables you to leverage the economic advantages of a bonded warehouse. Customs authorities
support cross-border trading companies by allowing them to store duty-unpaid goods without collecting import
duties when goods are re-exported or until goods enter the economic chain of that particular country or customs
union.
With the bonded warehouse of SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) in Service Parts Management (SPM), you
can utilize the economic advantages. It encompasses the following functions:
Open and discharge customs procedures for bonded warehousing based on supply chain document data
Communicate with customs authorities
Bonded warehouse inventory management based on the requirements of customs authorities

Implementation Considerations
All materials which are relevant for the bonded warehouse procedure must be flagged with the relevancy indicator in
the feeder system (ERP system).
In SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM), a warehouse location must be identified by a number.
Physical stock is characterized by a party entitled to dispose and a stock type. For SAP EWM, a combination of a
warehouse number and a party entitled to dispose must be linked with a bonded warehouse by a customs ID.
Note
For more information about implementation considerations and mapping requirements between SAP EWM and
SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM) as feeder systems and SAP GTS, see SAP Note
871212.
Integration
The bonded warehouse process involves the following systems:
SAP GTS, the leading system in this business process, does the following:
Handles customs-relevant process steps
Collects data about goods receipts and goods issues that are relevant for bonded warehousing
Sets the customs-relevant status in SAP EWM, such as a customs block
SAP EWM models physical steps of inbound and outbound processes on a supply chain level
ERP system is mainly used for information interchange between SAP EWM and SAP GTS
SAP CRM provides starting points for the document chain, for example with sales orders and invoices
Features
Bonded warehousing supports the following processes, triggered by actions across the system landscape:
Inbound processes
Inbounds
SAP EWM: When creating a shipping notification for a material flagged as bonded warehouse relevant,
the user needs to attach the movement reference number (MRN) and preliminary document type.
pdfcrowd.com
SAP GTS automatically creates a customs shipment. Depending on the process configuration, the
system can communicate with the customs authority. After receiving the unloading permission and
sending the confirmation message, customs authorities send the safekeeping notification lifting the
customs block in SAP EWM.
Putaway in SAP EWM generates a goods movement in the ERP system that triggers the bonded
warehouse inventory management in SAP GTS. If goods are duty paid, the system posts stock directly
to the bonded warehouse inventory management; if goods are duty unpaid, the system creates a
customs declaration before stock can be posted to bonded warehouse inventory management.
Returns
The inbound process for duty unpaid returns is similar to regular inbound processes as long as the
quality process starts physically after releasing the customs blocked indicator in SAP EWM.
In the case of duty paid returns only the relevant goods movements must be transferred to SAP GTS.
Outbound processes
Domestic Issues
When creating a goods movement document in the ERP system, material must be flagged as relevant
for bonded warehouse and the consignee must be located within the same country or customs union.
Based on the stock situation in SAP GTS, the system decreases duty paid stock first. If duty unpaid
stock is required, the goods movement document of the ERP system generates an entry for the
supplementary customs declaration in SAP GTS to transfer goods into free circulation.
Re-exports
When creating an invoice in SAP CRM the consignee must be located outside the same country or
customs union. During the material mapping in SAP GTS the system detects whether or not the
material of the invoice item is flagged as relevant for bonded warehouse. If the material is relevant for
bonded warehouse SAP GTS - based on the stock situation - reserves duty unpaid stock first and
opens a transit procedure. The discharge of the bonded warehouse procedure takes place by filing the
customs declaration and not before passing the border of that country or customs union. Therefore, the
transit procedure offers additional security.
Internal processes
Inventory Adjustments
In SAP EWM, a stock adjustment must be forwarded and approved. Based on that, the system creates
a goods movement document for stock adjustments in the ERP system. If this stock is adjusted for a
material that is flagged as relevant for bonded warehouse, the system automatically creates a relevant
worklist entry in SAP GTS that will result in a bonded warehouse stock adjustment.
Planned Scrapping
Creating a change delivery document with the scrapping indicator in the ERP system results in
automatically creating a customs declaration in SAP GTS and assigning a scrapping number to the

transaction. There, the user can print a scrapping list including the scrapping number, which is
necessary for applying for scrapping duty unpaid goods to the customs authorities. After receiving the
scrapping permission, you can create a transport order in SAP EWM which results in an outbound
delivery for a transport container, and requires the scrapping number as a reference.
