Dear Parishioners,
Todays readings: Wisdom: It is a passage in praise of Wisdom. I prayed and
understanding was given me.
Hebrew: The Word of God is something alive and active Gods word carries out
what it says.
St. Marks: The story of a good, rich young man who cannot accept Jesus invitation
... he is unwilling to part with his wealth.
True wisdom teaches us the right way to live; therefore it should be valued more
than gold. People are often judged to be great because of their wealth. This is not how
God sees us. We must depend on Gods goodness and compassion for our salvation, not
on our own resources.
Yet, so often we rely on ourselves as if we have all the answers. The rich young
man in the Gospel was good and upright a son that any parent would be proud of! Jesus
saw his goodness and potential, so he asked more of him. If you want to be perfect go
and sell what you have and give the money to the poor, then come, follow me. But he went
away sad. Jesus was asking too much. He went away sad. This young man had dreams
of greatness; of being the best person he could be but his wealth got in the way. In our
story of life, we are asked to give away or give up things to move on to leave our
comfort zone it is a struggle. There is a saying to reflect on: If you take things from
people, they are impoverished; but if you can get them to give them up, they are
enriched.
