Abstract-This paper is entitled “Revisiting towards Erotica’s in Temple Art of Bhubaneswar”.

The present paper bases the connection on the one hand, the equivalence and interchangeability
on the other, of the sexual passions (including the Anger-Fears) and the more intellectual
instincts of Art, Religion, and the interests and enthusiasms generally, upon the fundamental
quality of erythrism found in every animal cell. One of the most impenetrable decorative motifs
appearing on the temple art of Odisha is the erotic couple or mithuna image. Erotic sculpture
appears on the very earliest temples erected at Bhubaneswar that have survived the ravages of
time and plundering. With the possible exception of the Parsuramesvara, Muktesvara, Rajarani,
Lingaraja, Brahmesvara, Sukasari, Ymaswara, and Ganga Yamuna, etc, erotic images appear on
all the temples, including those which are poorest in decoration, even when other decorative
motifs are omitted. Like the parsva-devatas, erotic imagery thus appears to be a mandatory
decorative device which must have had the sanction of the sacred texts. This paper is revealed
the theory dichotomies between eroticism and Psycho-Eroticism, Heterosexual, and
Heterosexuality in the sculptural instance in temple art. The main things of this paper is finding
the before erotic’s sculpture what happened in the theory of “Kamasutra” and what is the
practice of Chatruvarga Phala Prapti (Four Principle of Life; which is the achievement of
Moksha or Salvation). This paper has also been suggested, on the other hand, that the erotic
sculpture is the result of the growing influence of Tantrism during the early medieval period,
especially the appearance of esoteric cults such as the Kaulas and Kapalkas who practiced ritual
mithuna as a means of attaining religious merit. It was believed that the erotic rituals of these
esoteric cults were despised by cultured people in general and were necessarily held in secret and
restricted to a fanatically select few. This paper has been also discussion the sculptural motif
which is represented the symbolic story of Kamadevas, Siva, and Kaluas Kapalikas and theme of
Kama and religious merit through obscenity.
