And a
little description of the place!?
This is going to take a while...
Athens
Recommended:
Blue Train -- Trendy gay bar in the buzzing Gazi area. Large windows which are opened up in the
summer allow the gorgeous folk of Athens to spill out across the pavement and talk, listen to the
music and watch the world go by. There is table service for your drinks too. An ideal place to start

Cero Consecuencia, Cabrera 3769, Palermo , Tue- Sun from 14 hs. Email:
ceroconsecuencia@hotmail.com A new cultural pub in Palermo. This bar is popular by very young
gay guys.
Bulnes Class, Bulnes 1250, Palermo Tel # 4861-7492. Thur After Office at 19 hs, Fri and Sat after 23
hs. Trendy Gay Lounge & Bar located half o block from Cordoba Avenue. The bar opened last year,
and it became very popular. This place is nicer, bigger and has better music than other bars, but I
prefered it when it wasn't so packed and you didn't have to make a big line to get in.
ALSINA Alsina 940, Monserrat (Fri from 2 - 6 AM Sun 10 PM to 3 AM) This new nightclub takes
place in Alsina Palace, a very elegant 3 stories XIX century commercial building. This place that
used to held Palacio Buenos Aires every weekend, reopened under a new name and management,
and continuous with the same popularity. This location has been while it was Palacio the best gay
night club in town. Don't miss Palacio Tea Dance on Sundays after 11 PM.
AMERIK Gascon 1040 (Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun from 1-6 AM) Phone #: 4865-4416. Amerik is the
biggest and wildest gay disco in Buenos Aires, and is a bizarre experience. Very mixed public (many
straights looking for easy girls, and free drinks), has a wild semi-dark room on the first floor. Has
two dance floors, and capacity for almost 2000 people, the main dance floor with tecno music, a
small glass isonorized dancefloor which view to the main dance floor where they play 90s hits and
latin music. Two bars. On Fridays and Saturdays there is "canilla libre" (free drinks) it's a sort of all
you can drink for the $30 cover. Advice, I do not recommend to drink anything but beer, or water
from the "canilla libre" bar. You have a VIP bar on the first floor to the right (opposite to the dark
room) where you can buy good booze (ask where it is). You can print your e-flyers from the website.
It is recommended to arrive before 2 AM to avoid the big lines. Cover Thur & Sun $10 (includes 1
drink), Fri & Sat $30 (Free Drinks). Updates: Amerik will reopen on Friday December 22 after being
closed for several months because of neighbors noise complaints.
PACHA B.A.: Clubland Av. Francisco Beir 4267 Phone # 4788 4280 (Sat 1-7 AM) It's not a gay disco,
but Saturdays are very gay friendly. If you like raves, creamfields, and electronic music, it is
definitely your place. Visiting Top DJ`s. Resident DJ`s: M. Cattaneo, C. Alfonsin, Suker, H Garca, Big
Fabio, Spitfire, C. Paz, J Paul. You have e-flyers, you can buy also anticipated tickets (TICKETEK Phone#: (54 11) 5237 7200)
GLAM Cabrera 3046 Has one dance floor, two bars a dark room and a patio. What to say about
Glam... Too many gays, or so little space! The place can get anoyingly crowded sometimes. In
summer it can be a little sweaty also. I have to be drunk to bear people pushing me, and walking
over my foot, but you will find plenty of 20's to 30's cute guys. If you are in the mood go for it, it's a
fun place for Thursdays and Saturdays. Cover $ 25 that includes one drink.
The Sub Cordoba 543, Nuevo Bajo, Downtown. Sat after 2. This is a new club that organizes gay
parties. You have to visit their website and submit your (and your friends) complete name and email
to be included in every Saturday list. The cover is $20 with flyer or list, and $ 25 without and
includes free drinks all night.
Brandon Gay Day - Brandon Gay Day is a circuit party organized by film and arts students. These
parties reunite -approximately twice a month- a mix of young alternative, trendy, and a few so called
filmmakers. You can check in their website where the next Party will take place and print the Eflyers. Last News: Brandon Gay Day is being held twice a month in "el teatro" Av. Federico Lacroze
and Av. Alvarez Thomas after 01:00 AM.
Eyeliner Party. Eyeliner advertises itself as a non-commercial electro-clash queerpunk party for
*******, dikes, transvestites, other freaks, and for anyone tired a World that is straight by definition.
For people who want to meet people, or just dance, kiss each other in peace, where there is no place
for snobbery, frivolity or absurd. You can check photos of previous parties. There is one party each
month, but the organizers held other events. Next Party will be held on September 30, 2005, in
Teatro Arlequines, Venezuela 1110 after 12 PM
Angel's Disco, Viamonte 2168, Recoleta. Open Thu. - Sat. from 1:30 am. This lower keyed club has
two dance-floors and a dark-room. Angels is the opposite of Palacio Alsina, and attracts of lower
income crowds of gay and tranvestites both locals and immigrants. Cover is $10 including 2 drinks
included or $15 three drinks.

DetroitIf youre going out to Detroit, you can hit several of the bars that are much like the bars in any
city, BUT I strongly urge you to get involved with Guerrilla Queer Bar and check out what theyre
doing instead.

If not, then theres a laundry list of the stand-bys:
Adam's Apple
18931 W. Warren Ave., Detroit, Michigan; Tel. 313.240.8482
Devoid of loud, distracting dance club music, Adam's Apple, is a neighborhood gay bar that gets
pretty packed on the weekends. It's a friendly place where conversation can flow as easily as the
cocktails, not a quality of many gay bars, so new friends are easily made.
Backstreet
15606 Joy Rd., Detroit, Michigan; Tel. 313.272.8959
Probably Detroit's most popular gay bar, Backstreet, is only open two nights out of the week, but on
those two nights the place is packed full with people jumping to the high energy dance music.
Backstreet has been a gay bar since the 70's and still manages to keep hip today.
Club DG
10001 Hubbell, Detroit, Michigan; Tel. 313.273.8941
Check out the scene at one of Detroit's best gay and lesbian dance clubs. Awesome DJ's pump out
the beats across the large dance floor every weekend.
Club Gold Coast
2971 E. Seven Mile Rd., Detroit, Michigan; Tel. 313.366.6135
The good times roll at this club hot spot for the gay community featuring adult male entertainment,
the hottest DJ's and dancing nightly.
Detroit Eagle
1501 Holden, Detroit, Michigan; Tel. 313.873.6969
A no attitude and very friendly bar, Detroit Eagle is one of the cities oldest gay leather bar, premium
drinks flow and the Dj's spin hits nightly, they're some of Detroit's best. Detroit Eagle also holds an
annual leather pageant, we don't know the prizes, but the studded leather sash is probably enough.
Gigi's
16920 W. Warren Ave., Detroit, Michigan; Tel. 313.584.6525
The best gay entertainment can be found at Gigi's, which has been doing it for years, everything
from go-go boys to female impersonators light up the stage at this favorite of the gay community.
Entertainment runs almost every night of the week and both men and women mingle with equal flair
Fri/Sat: frenetic and, dare we say it, tired; Sun: Bingo (always fun, more relaxed and touristy) followed by cabaret and great dance/retro music. Hits the end-of-weekend spot. More details

Propaganda is a place I have been before; it is still the only 100% gay
pub and disco in HK (others have only 1 gay night or so) and because of
it it is quite expensive especially after 10.30pm on Fri and Sat nights;
better be there early (start from 9.30pm) to enjoy the cheaper drinks
during happy hours; I went there before the Dragon Boat Festival and it
charged $100 for the entrance fee (included a drink) and I found it very
unacceptable (the notice on the entrance counter for that fee was newly
posted and it did appear beforehand). What can we do, there is no place
to be a subtitute for it (very good for cruising :))???

Madrid I have to admit, I know very little about Madrid, but I have heard it is much friendlier than
BarcelonaLate
CRASH, Pl del Callao, 4 (Callao/Gran Va). Thurs, midnight-6am. The scene is moving on in Madrid,
and these days tech-house and its close cousins just don't cut it. Enter Crash then, Tripfamily's new
replacement for the (lately empty) Cream. The Replicant (Star Whores Records), Smart (Ocho y
Medio resident) and lvaro Cabana (new resident of Rubble Action) spin a mix-up fix-up of electro,
disco, pop, new wave with punk and rock thrown in for good measure.
RUBBLE ACTION, Sala Stella, c/Arlaban 7 (Sevilla). Sat, 1am-7am. The new face of Saturdays in
Sala Stella got off to a good start last month. An 80s throwback crowd enjoys this cutting-edge club,
whose musical remit is simply electronic music, bringing a diversity of styles that is a welcome
breath of fresh air in what was becoming a slightly jaded scene.
SPACE ES SPACE, Pl Estacin de Chamartn (Chamartn). Sun, midnight-6am. Well, it had to happen
sometime. After nine years of midday madness, Space has grown up a bit and moved to a proper
nightclub slot. It won't be as fun as spending all day Sunday mashed up, but it'll come pretty close.
PINK FLAMINGO, c/Mesonero Romanos, 13, esq Gran Va, 35 (Callao/Gran Va). Thurs, midnight6am. www.tripfamily.com. A predominantly gay crowd generates a great atmosphere in this small,
cosy venue.
COPPELIA, Pl de los Mostenses, 11 (Callao). Fri-Sat, 12:30-6am. If electro is the sound of now, then
Coppelia is the place to check it out in. Miguel Mendoza is the front-room resident with the back
St. Paul gay bar with live music, dancing and karaoke that's popular with all sexual orientations.
I think this is the only large Queer bar in the Twin Cities now that Trikkx is closed.
Monte VideoDont bother going out before midnight unless youre looking for some alone time. MUCH
more friendly than Buenos Aires.
Espejismos Jackson 872 (Near Junction of Laura Muller) Longest running gay nightclub in
Montevideo gets busy from midnight onwards. Mostly gay with some lesbians. The music is quite
mixed with lots of Salsa and techo sounds. They also have shows and strippers.
Cain Cerro Largo 1833 (Near junction of Arenal Grande) Montevideos biggest gay club on three
floors with 2 dance floors, 3 bars plus dark room area. Downstairs is techno and western music and
upstairs is Latin. From 11pm onwards. Shows, strippers and go-go dancers. Recommended.
Milenio Junction of 25 de Mayo and Ciudadela. This club is not officially gay though popular amongst
gays nevertheless because of the good music and shows.
Ibiza Junction of Rondeau and Uruguay. Cruise bar with dark room open Thursday to Sunday 1am to
7am. Also has a lot of drag queens.
MontrealToo many hot strip clubs to name but here are a few:
Bar Taboo

Bolshoi Zlatoustinskii Pereulok 15
Moscow,
Telephone: 00 7 095 924 5732
www.propagandamoscow.com/
Another Propaganda but we forgive them since this is Moscow and theyre the past masters of the
dark art. A laid back clubby bar that attracts middle class Russians and moneyed ex-pats plus local
and foreign students into techno and acid jazz. Thursday is a big night and gets predictably packed
but it shouldnt stop you topping up on lemon vodka and chatting up that Anna Kournikova lookalike
by the bar. Believe the Propaganda!
New YorkYou can find a million bars in NYC. My favorite use to be The Monster, 80 Grove St.,
924.3557 because of all of the Puerto Rican gay boys, but now I hear its mostly an older crowd. It
would be helpful if I knew what part of Manhattan or which burg.

Ipanema's gayest night spot is on the beach block of Rua Teixeira de Melo. This street is next to
Farme, Rio's gay beach. A combination of professionals, intellectuals, actors, fashion victims, gym

1950 Huaihai Rd No. 4 (just over the main road from Eddy's Bar), 6283-1043, email. A gay-owned
gallery/bar in a former bomb shelter! Look for the free-standing, illuminated entrance and be
transported, like Dr. Who, into Shanghai's coolest gay underground space yet. Art exhibitions line
the Space Mountain ramps that zig and zag, fairly crackling with bizarro fung shui, as you descend
into a series of pleasure chambers that include their sexy undergear shop, Manifesto (see under
Shops), a main bar, internet nook, and customizable party spaces. Delightfully kooky spaces include
a glowing kryptonite zen bamboo chat box and "Pee Pee Island" in the men's room. Sip your cocktail
watching the latest art videos or chill out with friends in relaxed privacy. This subterranean
labyrinth attracts a young and trendy crowd, with a nice mix of locals, expats and visitors in-th-know. Monthly parties and special events. Open daily 9pm till late.

DC Eagle
639 New York Ave., NW Washington DC; Tel. 202.347.6025
Beware of leather-clad congressmen bearing watches. Almost every city has an 'Eagle', but DC's
leather bar is a standout in the crowd. Hot, sweaty and very cruisy. No bales of hay, but plenty of
cowboys and come-ons. (MS)
DIK Bar
1637 17th St., NW, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.328.0100
Whether you know it as DIK Bar (above Dupont Italian Kitchen) or Windows, this Dupont Circle
mainstay is a folksy favorite. Mismatched, tattered couches and arm chairs as well as tables and a
line of barstools give patrons plenty of opportunities to socialize and circulate. It's also one of the
best destinations on the block to watch the annual drag queen high heel race down 17th Street. (AN)
Duplex Diner
2004 18th St., NW, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.265.7828
If it's Thursday evening, those in-the-know will be at Duplex Diner. While this cozy, kitschy
restaurant and bar is popular most nights of the week with the sociable, see-and-be-seen set,
Thursdays are the jewel in Duplex's crown. Start out in the retro dining room with a basket of pigs in
a blanket or tater tots. Try the locally famous Mac & Cheese or a fresh, delicious broccolini salad,
served by one of several perky servers. Then, migrate to the bar for reasonably priced cocktails and
copious conversation. Duplex's welcoming atmosphere draws a diverse mix of attractive, easygoing
patrons. It's the ideal clean, comfortable neighborhood joint. (AN)
Floriana Mercury Grill
1602 17th St., Washington, DC; Tel. 202.667.5937
Floriana's conventional fine-dining on the main level of this historic Dupont Circle manor couldn't be
a more drastic departure from the restaurant's basement bar. The pint-sized, ruby-walled tavern is
replete with neighborhood regulars but strangers are welcomed with open arms. Patrons are
predominantly gay but plenty of fun-loving heterosexuals grab a drink here too. The only
prerequisites for fitting in are being chatty and casual. The space consists of a small bar, a few
stools and a countertop that runs the length of the outside wall so the spot can get cramped quickly
on a busy night. Bartender Dito mixes a mean drink (his sangria is scrumptious) and fiery proprietor
Floriana will make you feel right at home, in between cigarette puffs and dirty jokes. (AN)
Green Lantern
1335 Green Court, NW, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.347.4533
At the Green Lantern, taking it off pays off with complimentary cocktails. On Thursdays, shirtless
men drink free from 10-11 p.m. and men in underwear drink for free from midnight to 1 a.m. Various
happy hour specials occur throughout the week starting at 4 p.m. This low-profile bar features pool
tables, videogames and karaoke. The second floor, known as the Tool Shed, has its own distinct vibe
and it caters to more rugged bearish types. (AN)
Halo
1435 P St., NW, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.797.9730
When sleek, swanky smoke-free Halo opened its doors near Logan Circle in 2004, it was the antidote
to dark, murky gay bars. The well-lit, expertly decorated establishment, operated by illustrious
Washington party promoters Ed Bailey and John Guggenmos, has exceeded expectations. To
accommodate the throngs of au courant clientele that flock there nightly, the former second story
bar expanded, taking over a video rental store below. The larger space still fills to capacity on
weekends so don't be surprised to see a short line forming outside at peak partying hours. Don't
pass up a chance to try Halo's mouthwatering mojitos and other tropical specialty drinks. Happy
hour is 5-9 p.m. on weekdays where drinks are two for the price of one. (AN)
Heat
18 O St., NW, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.479.2233
Heat takes "house nights" to a whole new level. Afrodiziac Mondays feature black male and female
illusionists as well as black and Latino dancers. Tipsy Tuesdays boast $2 pool games, $2 drinks from
9-11 p.m. and $2 shots. Black and Latino dancers preside over Hot Coco Wednesdays and Thirsty

JR's
1519 17th St. NW Washington DC; Tel. 202.328.0090
This multi-level neighborhood bar pulses with beats, boys and beer. It's been part of the Dupont
Circle nightlife for many years but still hasn't lost its luster. Friendly bartenders and down-to-earth
clientele make JR's a modern-day, but very gay Cheers. On Monday nights, come belt out Broadway's
best during the popular showtunes sing-a-long or relive the wonder years on retro night Thursdays.

Kramer Books and Afterwords
1517 Connecticut Ave., NW Washington DC; Tel. 202.387.1400
The bookstore gained international fame and a Special Prosecutor's ire when it refused to submit
then-intern Monica Lewinsky's book purchase receipts on principle. Still a progressive bastion,
Kramerbooks provides the latest in Beltway memoirs, policy tomes and the best in current fiction.
Readers can peruse the aisles till their fancies are tickled, check their email free on the store's
somewhat antiquated Internet terminal, or nosh on a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads and coffee
drinks at its in-house Afterwords caf. Just make sure Kenneth Starr isn't doing his best J. Edgar
Hoover impression in the next aisle. (MS)
Lizard Lounge
1223 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.331.4422
Slither into the workweek with one of the hottest parties in gay DC. Six nights a week, this locale is
known as MCCXXII but on the seventh night, it becomes Lizard Lounge. On the posh first floor,
stylish singles mix and mingle between large Romanesque columns opposite a long soapstone bar. A
spacious dance floor allows patrons to groove to the sounds of resident DJ Kostas and special guest
spinners. On the second floor, an illuminated steel catwalk overlooks the main party space, which
connects a small exclusive bar and lounge furnished with plush velvet couches. Take advantage of
early evening drink specials until 10 p.m. and there's always complimentary admission. If Sunday
isn't enough, Chloe, one of Adams Morgan's newest, snazziest restaurant/lounges, is home to Hush,
a weekly gay-oriented party. The revelry takes place every Thursday (2473 18th St., NW,
Washington, DC; Tel. 202.232.5005). (AN)
Omega
2122 P St., NW, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.223.4917
For more than two decades, Omega has been a staple in the DC gay scene but only if you can find it.
The club, which is Apex's sister establishment, is sandwiched in between apartment buildings and
can't be seen from the street. Wednesday and Saturday night pool tournaments yield $50 and $25
bar tabs for first and second place winners and shirtless men also drink free on Wednesdays from
10-11 p.m. Karaoke contestants take the stage on Saturdays upstairs in the arcade and burly
bartenders dispense spirits in their skivvies on Sundays. (AN)
Phase One
525 8th St., SE, Washington, DC; Tel. 202.544.6831
Women of all shapes, sizes and colors gather at Phase One, a hole-in-the-wall on Capitol Hill. This
bar, also known as "The Phase," has been a destination for lounging ladies for more than three
decades. The ambiance is lacking but the clientele is fun, friendly and ready to party. Every once in a
while a man appears in the crowd but he's most likely a friend of the women who patronize this
small, sassy place. (AN)
Remington's
639 Pennsylvania Ave., SE Washington DC; Tel. 202.543.3113
Electric Slide fans, beware--Remington's patrons need more than a simple two-step to be won over.
This large Washington DC nightclub specializes in line dancing, man-to-man and cheek-to-cheek, and
even offers lessons weekly. Butch (as in Cassidy) men and women glide across the hardwood dance
floor while wallflowers wait for a cowboy or girl to lasso and lead 'em. (MS)
The Fireplace
2161 P St., NW Washington DC; Tel. 202.293.1293
It's unusual to find a gay bar that actually lives up to its name, but this dark, swank bar offers an
actual fireplace that softly illuminates the profile of your would-be intended. Strong drinks and a
friendly bar staff keep you company on cold nights and unobtrusive screens playing hot dance videos
stoke the fires on warmer ones. (MS)

ZurichAltstadt, Kirchgasse 4. Cool jazzy bar, open from breakfast time onwards, thats gaining a
reputation as an old-town meeting point away from the sleaze.
Babalu, Schmidgasse 6. Tiny postmodern-style bar, its chic denizens quaffing bottled beers and
cocktails amidst an onslaught of jungle beats.
Cranberry, Metzgergasse 3. Strange combination of a cosy bar predominantly gay and what the
management call a smoking lounge for dispersing cigar smoke and other fragrant aromas into the
night air.
Nachtcaf, Mnstergasse 26. An upstairs members-only restaurant, bar and dancefloor (no aftershave,
no entry) with a chic basement bar open to all. Handy for late-night liquor, but still so hip it hurts.
Closed Sun.
Odeon, Limmatquai 2. Compact caf-bar on Bellevue, where Lenin once sat and watched the world go
by. Theres little sign of revolutionary activity these days although the bar prices would spark a
popular uprising in any city other than Zrich.
Oepfelchammer, Rindermarkt 12. A 200-year-old building, all creaking timbers and lop-sided
ceilings, famous for its association with the citys literary son, Gottfried Keller. The reason to visit is
for beer in the tiny low-beamed upper front room, consistently packed. Legend has it that if you can
swing up and wriggle your way through the gap between beam and ceiling, your beers are on the
house: Keller may have done it, but few have braved the waiters since. Closed Sun & Mon.
Pigalle, Marktgasse 14. Legendary little bar filled with the elegantly wasted, or at least those who
are aspiring.
Rheinfelder Bierhalle, Niederdorfstrasse 76. Best of the many Central-end beerhalls. With wooden
benches, zero decoration and bright lights, this is a place to get shamelessly, sociably drunk, laugh
loudly and clap strangers on the back. The food is cheap and hearty: daily specials for around Fr.13
are padded out by their infamous Jumbo Jumbo Cordon Bleu, at Fr.22 a slab of deep-fried cheeseslathered meat so big it dangles off the plate on both sides. Closed Sun.
Schlauch, Mnstergasse 20 (upstairs). Quiet, friendly and relaxed diner-bar, perfect to catch your
breath from the Niederdorf scrum. Sizeable plates of health-conscious food (veggie and not), and a
snooker hall adjacent attract a young, vaguely alternative crowd. Closed Mon & Tues.
Schober, Napfgasse 4. A memorable old confectioners and caf thats straight out of Mary Poppins a
riot of frothy white lace, flowers and choice treats but head through to the capacious interior for
quite simply the best mug of hot chocolate (with whipped cream) you will ever have tasted. Its even
a shame to spoil it with a slice of home-made apple strudel but then again.
Wste, Oberdorfstrasse 7. Mellow, comfortable caf-bar below the Otter hotel, decorated in ethnic
style and dotted with candles.
Zhringer, Spitalgasse at Zhringerplatz. Long-standing co-operative-run bastion of Zrcher
counterculture, attracting an alternative clientele for snacks, herbal teas and beer. Dawn opening on
the weekends makes it a mecca for clubbed-out sleepyheads. Mon 6pmmidnight, TuesFri
8ammidnight, Sat & Sun 5ammidnight.
