Quick Guide
This Quick Guide describes how to upgrade data from
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 3.70 to Microsoft Dynamics NAV
2009.

1. Prepare for the data conversion.

1. Make a copy of the database on which you will perform the conversion.
2. Verify that both your solution developers license file and customers
license file have been upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009.
3. If the database has roles and permissions set up, then create a
superuser with a blank password if one is not provided. Log in as the
superuser when you perform the upgrade.
4. Run the Adjust Cost-Item Entries batch job to ensure that the
inventory cost data is up to date.
5. If you are upgrading an SQL database, then open the Alter Database
window and clear any checkmarks in the Maintain View, Maintain
Relationships and Maintain Defaults fields.
6. Make a backup of the entire database before you start.
7. Test the database for everything except table/field relationships.
8. Test the database for table/field relationships.
9. Compile all objects and resolve what to do with those objects that do not
compile.
10. Install Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 and start the Classic client.
2. Upgrade C/SIDE on Microsoft SQL Server if you are upgrading an
SQL database.
If necessary, upgrade to SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.
Convert your existing SQL database in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 with the
Classic client.
3. Open the old customized data with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009
Classic client.
Create a new database in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 that is twice the size of
your old database.

Restore the backup of the old customized database into the new database.
Alternatively, you can open a copy of the existing database with the Classic
client, convert the database, and expand it to be twice the size of the old
database.
4. In Object Designer, import the Upgrade3702009.1.fob file.

5. For each company, perform any manual data or object changes to


prepare the data for step 1 of the upgrade.
Ensure that the values in the Unit-Amount Rounding Precision and Amount
Rounding Precision fields for the additional reporting currency are not 0.
6. Run codeunit 104045, Upgrade NAV 2009 Step 1.
In Object Designer, run form 104001, Upgrade - Old Version.

For each company, on form 104001, click Transfer Data. This runs codeunit
104045.
7. On form 104001, click Delete Objects.
This runs codeunit 104002 to delete all forms, reports, dataports, and codeunits
from the database but not the tables.
8. Import the new customized objects that you created in the compare
and merge process.
In the Import Worksheet window, click Replace All, and then click OK.

11. For each company, perform any manual data or object changes to
prepare the data for step 2 of the upgrade.

On the Tools menu, click Language, and then select the language of the old
customer database from the list.
Use form 691, Send-to Programs, to set up programs for integration with
Microsoft Office.
Use form 690, Manage Style Sheets, to set up style sheets for exporting data
to Microsoft Office applications.
Use form 104090, Team Meeting Organizers, to assign a salesperson code
for the meeting organizer for each team.
Use form 5236, Human Res. Units of Measure, to set up human resource units
of measure.
12. Run codeunit 104048, Upgrade NAV 2009 Step 2.
In Object Designer, run form 104002.

For each company, on form 104002, click Transfer Data. This runs codeunit
104048.
13. For each company, perform any data changes that are needed after
step 2.
Check if the customer has changed the standard source codes or source code
setup and update any new source codes if necessary.

14. For each company, initialize the company in the upgraded database.
Run codeunit 2, Company-Initialize.

Close the company and open it again.


Open form 531, Setup Checklist, to update the checklist for the Microsoft
Dynamics NAV 2009 data structure.
15. Upgrade data common to all companies.

Upgrade Security Roles and Permissions


If the customer uses the standard roles and permissions, then perform the
following procedure:
1.

On form 104002, click Security, and then click Import Roles.

2.

Click Security, and then click Import Permissions.


This runs dataports 104001 and 104002 and imports the text files that
contain new standard roles and permissions that you have received from
your local Microsoft country or region office.

If the customer does not use the standard roles and permissions, then you must
manually upgrade the roles and permissions.
Upgrade Database Key Groups
Synchronize the Security System
If you are upgrading Microsoft Dynamics NAV with SQL Server, then you must
synchronize the security system.
16. On form 104002, click Delete, and then click Unused Old Tables.
This runs codeunit 104003, which deletes old tables that are no longer used in
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009.
17. On form 104002, click Delete, and then click Upgrade Toolkit.
This runs codeunit 104004, which deletes the upgrade toolkit objects.
18. Test the database.
Test the database for everything except table/field relationships.

Test the database for table/field relationships.


Test the upgraded database functionality using the customers new license.
19. Install the new clients.

Make a backup of the new upgraded database.


Remove all previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV from the client
computers.
Install Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 on all client computers and on the server.
