RecentlyIhaveinstalledtheSAPBusinessObject4.0onSybasedatabase.
IcantfindanymaterialwhichguidesmetoperformthisinstallationonSybaseASE.HenceIhavespentalmosta
weekoftimeinsurfingSCNandothersourcestogathersomeguidesandrecommendationsbutstillIwashadlotof
hurdlesintheinstallationwhichmadetoreinstallformorethanfivetimes
FinallyIaccomplishedthetaskandtheserverisnowrunningsuccessfully.

HenceIamBloggingthisguideforthenewbieslikemewhocanmakeuseofthiscaninstallwithoutanyfailure(Iwish
so ).Iamsorrythatidonthavemuchofsnapshots

ClickonSybaseASE15xsetup

ProceedwithclickingNextandchooseyouinstallationdirectory
Clickonnextandprovideyourlicensefileorgowithfreedevelopereditionoptions
AccepttheT&C
NowclickonInstalltostarttheinstallationprocess
ASEpluginwillaskforsavepasswords,clickonEnableorDisableasperyousecuritypolicy.
Nowthevitalpartofinstallation,configuringASEserverstarts.Clickonnexttoconfigure.
Ontheconfigurationparameter
a. choosemixedoltp/dssasapplicationtype
b. Choose8kpagesize(PrerequisiteforSBOP4.0)
c. Choosecharsetasutf8ifyouwanttouseAsianlanguagewhileinstallingSBOP
Clickonnextafteraboveselections,andignorethewarningmessageaboutpagesize.
NowchangethemasterdeviceandDBsizeifneeded.
Clicknexttoconfigurebackupserverandxpserver.
Thepasswordforsaaccountwouldbedisabledforinput,whichcanbesetafterinstallation.
Checktheparametersforconfiguringwebservicesandclickonnext
Checkthesettingsfordiscoveryservicesandclickonnext
Checkthesecurityloginmodulesandclicknext
SpecifytheportforRMI(thisshouldnotbeusedbyotherapp)orproceedwithdefaultvalue.
ClickyestosetuptheSybaseSQLserveraswindowsservice.
Checktheparametersatglanceandclicknext.
a. Mostofthetimewewouldfaceanerroratthistime.TheinstallerwillthrowanerrorFailedtoconfigurenew
adaptiveserver.
b. TheinstallermaygiveadetailederrorsayingCannotrunprogram"<instdir>:\Sybase\ASE

15_0\bin\sybatch.exe"(indirectory"<instdir>:\Sybase"):CreateProcesserror=14001,The
applicationhasfailedtostartbecauseitssidebysideconfigurationisincorrect.Pleaseseethe
applicationeventlogorusethecommandlinesxstrace.exetoolformoredetail.
c. Donotclosetheinstallerandrefertomydocument

Sybasesidebysideconfigerrorforsolutions.

Afterapplyingthesolution,clickonpreviouswhichwilltaketothescreen(step18)andclicknext.Nowyou
wouldseetheconfigurationisrunningsmoothly.
Clickfinishoncetheinstallationcompletes

Thiswouldchangethedefaultblankpasswordofsatothenewpassword.

AfterinstallingSybasewemayhavetocreateaseparateDBforSBOP4.0.CreatinganewDBthroughcommand
promptusingisqlstatementmaybeinterestingbutIwouldprefertouseagraphicaltoolforcreatingdatabase.During
theSybaseinstallation,atoolcalledSybasecentral6.0wouldalsobeinstalled.Youcanfinditonthefollowingpath.
Start>Programfiles>Sybase>Sybasecentral6.0
Or<instdir>:\Sybase\Shared\SybaseCentral6.0.0\win64\scjview

PointstorememberduringcreatingDBforSBOP4.0
CreateanewdeviceforBusinessobjectdatabasewith2GBspace.
CreateanewdatabaseforBusinessobjectdatabasewith1.5GBspaceforloganddatainabovecreated
device.(forrecoverypurposeitisrecommendedtocreateseparatedeviceforlog)
CreateanewloginprovidetheownershipforthebusinessobjectdatabaseandalsosetthenewlycreatedDBas
defaultDBforthisuser.
Passwordforthisusershouldnotcontainanyspecialcharacter.

INSTALLINGBUSINESSOBJECTSERVER4.0
NowweshallinstalltheBusinessObject4.0server.Beforestartinginstallation,youshouldapplyforlicensein
ServiceMarketPlaceguide.
Youcanalsoobtaintemporarykeyonthesame.

Pleaseensureyouhaveadminprivilegesandyourpassworddoesnotcontainanyspecialcharacter.
NavigateBusinessobjectserversetupfolderandclickonSetup,andselectthelanguage.
RunthroughthePrerequisitecheckandverifywhetherthereareanyerrors.Installerwouldletyoutostartthe
installationonlyifallthechecksareinsuccessstate.
EntertheName,OrganizationandproductkeyandclickonNext
SelectFullinstallationandclicknext.
Makechangesininstallationpath,ifnecessary.Andclickonnext.
SelectUseanexistingdatabaseforsettingSybaseASEasDBforBIplatform.
OnthelistofCMSdatabasetype,selectSybaseoption,andclicknext.
OntheListofAuditingdatabase,choosethedesiredoneorskipbyselectingNoauditingdatabaseandclick
next
SelectJavawebapplicationserverasperyourrequirementorleaveitfordefaulttomcatoptionandclicknext.
SelectInstallanduseSubversionforversioncontrolmanagementandclicknext,
SpecifythedetailsforServerIntelligenceNodename(bydefaulthostname)andport(bydefaultitis6410).
(Pleasemakeanoteoftheseportnumbers)
EnterCMSportno(bydefault6400)(Pleasemakeanoteoftheseportnumbers)
EnterpasswordfortheAdministratoraccountandCMSclusterkeyandclickonnext.
a. Note:ThisisthepasswordwhichyouwouldusetologintheBIlaunchpadandCMCafterinstallation.The
defaultuserIDisAdministrator.Pleasenotedownthepasswordwhichyouenterhere.TheCMScluster
keyispasswordforaccessingtheCMSdatabase(businessobjectdatabaseentities).Hencepleasenote
downthiskeyalsowhichyoumayhavetouseinfuture.Thiskeywouldbeencryptedandhenceyoumay
notfinditlaterifyouforgetthis.
b. Avoidusingspecialcharactersonpasswordandclusterkeys
FillintheCMSdatabaseconnectioninfo
1. Sybaseservicename:NameoftheSybaseservername,probablyyourhostname.elsecheckthe
namebylookingattherunfile.Path:<inst_dir>:\Sybase\ASE15_0\install\

Run_<servername>.bat
2. Username:SpecifytheusernamecreatedforbusinessobjectsDB(avoidgivingsa)
3. Password:Specifythepasswordfortheaboveuser.
Thedatabasewillbechosenautomaticallybasedontheabovecredentials,hencespecifytheuser
thatisdesignatedtotheDBcreatedforBusinessObjects.
CheckfortheTomcatportsandclickonnext.(Pleasemakeanoteoftheseportnumbers)
CheckfortheHTTPlisteningportsandclicknext.
Passwordforsubversionrepository:Thiscredentialisforversionmanagementsoftware,itisbettertomaintain
samepasswordwithasspecifiedforCMSaccount.
SelecttoconfigureSMDagent,ifyouhaveSolutionmanagerandSLDinplaceorclickDonotconfigureSMD
agent
SelecttoconfigureconnectivitywithIntroscopeEnterpriseMangerorclickDonotintegrate.

Issueslikerecommendedpagesize,usageofsalogininbobjinstallerwhichautomatically
choosesthemasterDB,errorsduetotheSIAserviceaccountcredentialsetc..

memoryfortheextractsandexportsforCMSdatabase,consideringthe
OLAPtransactionsitisbettertomaintain8kbpagesize.

thereisnoproblemwith4kaswell,Ianswereditsincesomeoneaskedme.
