Content Analysis : The students themselves find out the content of the story
provided to them.
Objectives : Students will be able to predict possible missing words from a short
story by using context clues.
Pre- requisites :
The students

Student should have read stories.


They should have a tendency of predicting the climax of stories.
They should be able to identify the missing words in a story.
Proper vocabulary should be there in students.
Students should be able to associate synonyms.

Teaching Learning Aids : Story book, Copies of the story covered with suitable
words.

Classroom Interaction Procedure

Assessment

Informal Interaction : The teacher


creates a rapport with the students with
an informal conversation.
Entry Talk : The teacher asks the
students whether they read stories.
Link Talk : Today we are going to
read a short story in a new way. Today
I am free and it is your turn to read the
story and predict the words which I
miss. So shall I proceed.
Microprocessing of the Input
Model reading by the teacher : The
teacher reads the story aloud to the
class saying the word blank where
words are covered up.
Phase I
After reading the story to the class
saying the word blank where words
are covered up. Teacher asks the
students.
Teacher : Can you suggest possible
words that would complete the
sentences correctly.
Now the teacher writes all the
suggestions on the board.
Phase II
Here the teacher discuss why these
words would work well or would
not work and narrow the choices down
according to what the class decides.
Teacher : Now I am going to uncover
the first letter of the first word.
Teacher keeps on repeating the same
routine for each word that is covered
up.

Phase III
Depending on the experience level and
reading level of the students the teacher
tries to show some pictures related to
the hidden words.

After students decoding all of the
covered words, the teacher shows them
the proper answers and she predicts the
real winners.
Closure of the Lesson
The teacher asks the class certain
questions:
1. Do you have to read every single
word in order to understand the
story?
2. Does the use of synonyms make
the story change?
3. How do you predict words?
Evaluation of the Lesson
Each and every student in the class
came out with their answers. They gave
or predict logical words. Some also
predicted words which were not
appropriate. When graphophonic clues
were given (beginning letter, etc)
students were able to use them to
figure out the actual word.
