Conklin and deDecker substantiated total cost of ownership for 300CB and R22 to be approximately
equal - the 300CB offers more favorable cash flow (See Economic Analysis of the Schweizer 300CB

ADVANTAGES OF SCHWEIZER
300CBi FOR FLIGHT TRAINING
Cockpit Layout
10 inches wider and 25% more volume than R22.
Conventional control system no negative habit transfer.
Adjustable anti-torque pedals with 5.4 inches of travel enables pilots of nearly any size to be comfortably seated.

Instrument panel and useful load accommodates full IFR

instrument panel.

Standard Equipment includes instruments and avionics

required for VFR, day/night flight training.

Only production helicopter to offer 360 visibility from

pilots seat - far exceeds FAA requirements of AC-27-1.

Right hand pilot-in-command position.

SCHWEIZER
MODEL 300CBi
HELICOPTER

ADVANTAGES OF SCHWEIZER
300CBi FOR FLIGHT TRAINING
Operational Advantages
140 lbs. more useful load than R22 at comparable endurance.
Automatic rotor engagement system.
Injected engine eliminates carb heat requirement.
Excellent throttle correlation eliminates need for throttle governor.
Low cockpit vibration and noise levels.
Typical fuel consumption in training operation 10.5 gallons/hour.
Start-up overspeed limiter.
Optional P.I.C. position.
Lowest fly over noise profile of any piston helicopter.
Optional capability to fly with three crewmembers.
Wide selection of optional avionics and equipment.

ADVANTAGES OF SCHWEIZER
300CBi FOR FLIGHT TRAINING

SCHWEIZER
MODEL 300CBi
HELICOPTER

Flight Properties
Stable and responsive handling characteristics.
Cyclic control well balanced under all flight conditions.
Excellent throttle correlation eliminates need for throttle
governor (FAA mandated in R22).
180 hp engine provides excellent power margins.

Training Effectiveness
Flight hours required by student pilots to solo or achieve ratings is
documented to be 20 to 30% less than R22; SFAR 73 mandates
minimums for R22.
Conventional controls enhance cockpit coordination and ability of
instructor to demonstrate maneuvers or take over control of aircraft.
Cockpit size, robust structure, and stable flight properties are
confidence builders to students.
Jeppesen training material is tailored to 300CBi and facilitates
learning.

Safety and Crashworthiness

General
In the first 200,000 hours of operation, there were no fatalities, only one injury
accident in a 300CB, and a total of only eleven accidents.
NTSB statistics substantiate that 269 Series helicopters have the lowest
accident rate and fatality rate per flight hour of any piston-powered helicopter.
300CBi contains the same safety and crashworthiness features of the Model
300C.
FAA has imposed no SFARs on any Schweizer helicopters and no minimum
amount of time before solo.
Safety
Forgiving flight characteristics enable student pilot or instructor to recover an
aircraft after an improper control movement. Significant are its:
- large power reserve;
- rapid response to throttle inputs; and
- forgiving handling characteristics

ADVANTAGES OF SCHWEIZER
300CBi FOR FLIGHT TRAINING

SCHWEIZER
MODEL 300CBi
HELICOPTER

Safety and Crashworthiness (cont)

Safety (cont)
Low rotor speed warning indicators.
Exceptional auto-rotational properties because of high kinetic energy in
articulated rotor system.
Dynamic system proven by over 18 million flight hours.
No concerns regarding carburetor ice.
Crashworthiness
Energy absorption 23 inches of stroke achieved through compression
of landing gear, crushable sub-floor, and seat structure.
No incident of blade impingement into cabin of any 269 Series
helicopters.
No incident of in-flight break-ups or airborne tailboom strikes on any
269 Series aircraft manufactured during last twenty years.
Engine and fuel system outside of enclosed structure.

Mast provides rollover protection.

SCHWEIZER
MODEL 300CBi
HELICOPTER

ADVANTAGES OF SCHWEIZER
300CBi FOR FLIGHT TRAINING
Performance

Standard fuel tank provides 2.5 hours of training plus reserves.

Sea level, ISA performance at gross weight is comparable to
that of 300C.
Hover performance, range, endurance, and speeds are more
than adequate for ab initio training role.
Wider CG envelope than R22 and with significantly fewer
operating restrictions.
Start-up and shut down in gusty conditions is not an
operational limitation for articulated, three-bladed rotor system
as on 300CBi.

ADVANTAGES OF SCHWEIZER
300CBi FOR FLIGHT TRAINING

SCHWEIZER
MODEL 300CBi

Maintainability
Lowest Finite Life Limit on any life-limited component is 4000 hours.
Engineered to minimize maintenance man hours per flight hour and
downtime.
100% field maintainable no factory overhaul at 2000 hours or after
ten years.
Maintenance intervals simplified and aligned:
- 100 hour general inspections average 10-12 hours; and
- periodic maintenance scheduled every 600 hours.
Schedule overhaul time for engine at 2200 hours; for main and tail
rotor transmissions at 4200 hours.

operating costs, and increased reliability.
Excellent spares support and technical support from Schweizer
Aircraft and its service network.
Best warranty of any piston-powered helicopter.
High quality factory insurance program.
Competitive finance program with no hourly reserve and terms out
to twenty years.

ADVANTAGES OF SCHWEIZER
300CBi FOR FLIGHT TRAINING
Cost Consideration

Conklin and deDecker Report1 substantiates that total cost of

ownership (i.e., the cost to acquire and operate) for a 300CB and R22
is approximately equal the 300CB offers more favorable cash flow.
Resale value of 300CBi is much higher than R22 (2000 hour CB sells
for 65% of original cost; 2000 hour R22 for 20%).
Because of cost equivalency per flight hour and the lower number of
hours required to achieve ratings, the cost to the student to achieve
a rating is less than in R22.

See Economic Analysis of the Schweizer 300CB and Robinson-R22B2 based on Typical U.S.
Operations, Conklin and deDecker Aviation Information, January 26, 2001.
