Students applying for an Integrated Ph. D Programme are required to have the following
subject(s) in the undergraduate courses:
• How to Apply
Applications should be made in the prescribed application form [ doc, pdf ]. The duly
filled in application, along with a draft of Rs. 100, payable to the Registrar, Indian
Institute of Science Education & Research, Kolkata, should be sent to the Registrar,
IISER-Kolkata, Mohanpur Campus, Post: BCKV Main Office, Mohanpur 741252,
West Bengal - 741252, by registered post. The candidate should write PBIP with his/her
chosen discipline on the top of the envelope while sending the application form (e.g.,
PBIP-Mathematics). The last date for applications to be received is April 30, 2010.
List of selected candidates for written test (based on syllabus up to B. Sc standard) will
be published in the IISER-Kolkata website tentatively on 22nd May, 2010. Written test
and interview of selected candidates (based on written test) will be conducted tentatively
on 29th and 30th June, 2010. Names of candidates selected for Integrated PhD
programme for the year 2010 will be published in IISER-Kolkata website tentatively on
7th July, 2010.
(iii) a plan of work (within 250 words) in the applicant’s own words (do not download
from the internet or copy from other sources) that the student would like to carry out
in the Ph. D Programme. Landline phone no. and/or mobile no. are essential.
Incomplete applications may not be considered.
• Mode of Selection
Institute-level committee(s) will scrutinize all the applications, and prepare a shortlist of
about 100 candidates, who may be called for interview. The Institute will finally declare
the list of selected candidates on the Institute website. The Institute will provide second-
class (sleeper) train fare (on production of tickets) and hostel accommodation to students
appearing in the interview.
• Student Intake
In the Academic Session 2010-2011, a total of 22 students may be selected, covering all
sciences.
A tentative distribution is: Physics (5), Chemistry (5), Biology (5), Earth Sciences (5) and
Mathematics (2). Students will be given a monthly fellowship, as in a similar
programme run by the IISc, Banglore.
