INTRODUCTION
JUE 300 is the second level of the English Language proficiency course offered by the
School of Distance Education (PPPJJ). It is a slightly more advanced course than JUE
200.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
This course hones your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills further. It is hoped
that it would enable you to use the language-be it in the written or spoken form accurately and confidently in any language situation. It should also help you acquire
information in the English language from any source easily.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, you must be able to:
1.

acquire the reading skills in guessing, recognizing, predicting and inferring.

2.

read a text critically and comprehend the organisation of a text.

3.

express yourself clearly in English in a group discussion.

4.

listen for explicit and implicit information in various types of oral texts.

5.

write effective essays/reports in the English language.

6.

express your personal experiences or describe persons, places or things in the


written form.

Course Materials
The textbook for this course is entitled Spotlight On English. All the four language skills
(listening, speaking, reading and writing) are focused in this course. Recorded lectures,
modules and worksheets will be placed in the PPPJJ portal. Apart from the material in
the portal, you are also encouraged to do additional practice in English on your own.
Please view those lectures as it will give you a comprehensive guide to this course.

INTENSIVE COURSE
The intensive course will be held from 19 January 7 February 2016 (*subject to
change).
Total number of contact hours: 4 hours (*subject to change).
