Chapter 1

A New Beginning

IN the 361st year post-cataclysm, the inhabitants of our island Takaroa

came together and chose their most valorous and prominent among them to
form the crews that would set out for the first time across the Sea of Sorrows
since the Cataclysm. Eight crews were formed to take part in the final
challenge, competing in what came to be known as the "Final Cleansing," a
last attempt to destroy the monstrosities left over in the last forest of the
island Takaroa to bring peace and security to the island before the newly
formed crews set out, and thus the crews set out to the forest.
However, the eight crews were not the only ones to set out. A ninth
set forth, created through clerical errors as well as their own will and volition.
The seven defenders took to the forest in their quest, certain to win the
competition as well as the choice flagship of the islands newly found fleet.
Crew Nine came upon their first challenge soon into the night,
engaging and defeating two mighty Axebeaks, and claiming them as
trophies. Before departing, however, the groups keen eyes spotted the nest
of the Axebeaks, and a highly valuable egg was found intact. Pushing on,
the crew rushed to the aid of Crew Four who fought valiantly, past their own
abilities, and easily defeated a vicious Manticore. After a brief argument with
the Dwarven self-proclaimed leader of the rival crew, claim of the animal was
split between the two crews, though much to the Dwarfs chagrin.
The battle, however, was not without loss, as the life of one Halfing,
Aramalus Tumbelly, and of an Elf, Elemnet Tuarial, were lost. The
possessions of both were taken to be given to their bereaved families.
Though it was believed their trophies were more than enough, Crew
Nine pushed onward, going above and beyond their duties to further secure
the islands safety. The Crew, trudging into the forest, soon fell upon a part of
the forest corrupted by an ancient, dark, and necrotic magic; trees, roots, the
grass itself were filled with fetid ooze. Pushing on to discover the cause, the
crew discovered a field within the corruption harboring almost a dozen
zombies which have plagued the island's past, fallen dead left over from the
Cataclysm itself. Putting the undead to their final rest, a pitfall opened up to
reveal a hidden catacomb filled with unfinished infrastructure, and traps both
old and new.
Valiantly forging on into the chamber, and disarming the traps, the
Crew discovered the holding and ritual site of none less than a

Necromancer, as well as her defenders: Zombies, as well as a Hanged Man

corpse, all bolstered by a wicked, necrotic aura.
Through cunning stealth, magecraft, and assault, the Crew overcame
the threat without loss, and the wicked foe was defeated, slaying the
undead, and mage alike. The Crew recovered the body of the mage, as well
as both a Staff and Tomb used for a wicked ritual.
The Crew returned to the Takaroan Agora. Turning the artifacts over to
the islands three Guild leaders, the items were destroyed, which put an end
to the island's undead threat once and for all. Their victory in the
competition was sealed, and their valiant heroics marked and renowned in
the tales told by parents for generations to come.
