SCHOOL STRATEGIC PLAN & IMPLEMENTATION MAP

2013-2016
Our Vision: To ensure that each student is academically prepared, through the highest
quality of education, to gain self-fulfillment and independence throughout life to meet the
challenges of the 21st century.

Our Mission: To create an environment that is safe, engaging, and prepares students
for success and lifelong learning.

Transforming Initiative 1: Differentiated Instruction

Our classrooms are filled with diverse learners who not only differ culturally and
economically but also in their cognitive abilities, background knowledge, and learning
preferences. CCMS staff will use a differentiated instruction to approach teaching and
learning for students of differing abilities in the same class.
Although experts and practitioners acknowledge that the research on differentiated
instruction as a specific practice is limited, solid research does validate a number of
practices that provide the foundation of differentiation. These practices include using
effective classroom management procedures; promoting student engagement and
motivation; assessing student readiness; responding to learning styles; grouping students
for instruction; and teaching to the student's zone of proximal development (the distance
between what a learner can demonstrate without assistance and what the learner can do
with assistance) (Allan & Tomlinson, 2000; Ellis & Worthington, 1994; Vygotsky, 1978).

Transforming Initiative 2: Analyzing Data

CCMS staff will consistently use data to plan, to engage students, and to deliver
instruction. Our measurement of success will be focused on students and student data.
No single assessment can tell educators all they need to know to make well-informed
instructional decisions, so researchers stress the use of multiple data sources. Generally,
schools collect enormous amounts of data on students attendance, behavior, and
performance, as well as administrative data and perceptual data from surveys and focus
groups. When it comes to improving instruction and learning, its not the quantity of the
data that counts, but how the information is used (Hamilton et al., 2009).
