College Football Playoff Watch

SATURDAYS NOTABLE GAMES

OU, Baylor get shot at quality wins

Oklahoma.

Oklahoma hardly looked like a

playoff contender in its 24-17 loss to
Texas. But since then, OU has rattled off victories over Kansas State,
Texas Tech, Kansas and Iowa State
by an average score of 58-1212.
At No. 12 in the CFP ranking, the
Sooners could land a playoff spot by

winning out, starting with Saturdays game at Baylor. Their final

three regular-season opponents
No. 6 Baylor, No. 15 TCU and No. 8
Oklahoma State are a combined
25-1.
TheBears (8-0) are desperate for
a quality win. They certainly have

experience to draw from with blowout victories over OU in the last two
meetings.
Freshman QB Jarrrett Stidham
showed in last weeks 31-24 win over
K-State that hes capable of maintaining the nations top offense. He
threw for 419 yards and three TDs in

his first start since replacing injured

Seth Russell.
The Bears can bolster their rsum significantly with games remaining against Oklahoma, OklahomaState and TCU.

No. 2 Alabama
at No. 17 Mississippi St. (+8)

Oregon (+10)
at No. 7 Stanford

2:30 p.m., (Ch. 11): Dare we wonder if the

Crimson Tide is over-CFP-rated? Sure,
they are coming off an impressive win
over LSU and they play in the mighty SEC
and all that, but they also have a loss. To
an Ole Miss team that is 7-3. If Alabama
beats the Bulldogs, only Charleston
Southern and Auburn stand in its way
before the SEC title game. Alabama 30,
Mississippi State 20.

6:30 p.m., (Ch. 4): At least one person is

shocked by Stanfords lofty rank. The Cardinal, who opened with a 16-6 loss to Northwestern (7-2), improved four spots from No.
11, one spot ahead of undefeated Oklahoma
State, by beating Colorado? An improved
Oregon (6-3) posts a formidable challenge,
and Stanford closes with Cal and No. 4 Notre
Dame. The Pac-12s weakness may be too
much for the Cardinal to overcome to reach
the playoff. Stanford 38, Oregon 30.

No. 21 Memphis (+7)

at No. 24 Houston
6 p.m., ESPN2: The committee gave the
American Athletic Conference some love
by including four of the leagues teams in
the ranking. But 9-0 Houston, with victories over Louisville, Cincinnati and Vanderbilt (34-0) is too far back to reach the
final four with only UConn and Navy left.
Five two-loss teams are ranked higher.
Memphis dropped eight spots from No. 13
with its loss to Navy, which moved into
the poll at No. 20. Houston 42, Memphis
30.

No. 8 Oklahoma State

at Iowa State (+14)

Derick E. Hingle/USA Today

Quarterback Greg Ward Jr. (1) has lead Houston to a 9-0 record, but at No. 24 in the CFP ranking,
the Cougars really dont have a chance to crack the playoff field.

2:30 p.m., ESPN: After beating TCU, the Cowboys improved six spots in the ranking. But
they seem to have no margin for error despite being undefeated because, well, they
have only Big 12 opponents left. With Baylor
and Oklahoma following, the Cowboys have
enough potential power points to wrest a
CFP spot. Its worth noting that an upset loss
to Iowa State cost OSU a shot at a BCS National Championship in 2011. Oklahoma State
45, Iowa State 27.

Line through Tuesday. LAST WEEK: 1-3 straight, 2-2 vs. line. SEASON: 21-11 straight, 20-11-1 vs. line.
