This is part of a major assignment, a own eight floor, 2,000 m2 in total, new building, adjacent
to the Canadian Embassy and opposite Athens Hilton Hotel, housing the Athens HQ of a major
Istanbul, Turkey conglomerate (banking, engineering and construction, hotels, commercial
dealerships etc.).
The client has demanded an outstanding private pent-house apartment, complete with its terrace
swimming pool and garden and occupying the last two floors (of some 350 m2) of the building,
of exceptional architecture and statement aesthetics of classist Athenian characteristics,
a challenge to which we readily rose with pleasure and gusto.
The entrance hall is highly (one may say monumentally) minimalistic, with all side walls panelled in
ebonised wood, all doors leading off the entrance hall, of abundantly different shapes and sizes,
flashed to the wall panelling, leading the unobstructed eye to the bottom all-white wall, adorned by
a walled sculpture of Takis. However the dominant future is the indented to the black panelled wall
frieze, decorated with a Yiannis Moralis inspired motive (the nearby Athens Hilton Hotel building
being adorned by a relief sculpture of Yiannis Moralis).

Another classically aesthetic architecture statement is the dining room of the apartment.
A plain white wall and marble floor room, its classic form intonated by the also white ceiling,
abstructively adorned by a wide round opening, whose concealed lighting, provides the only
light source of the room. The rooms classic hue is enhanced by the opaque white curtains
of Balenciaga-like drapes, while the plain rotunda non-table dining-room is given its Attic
character by the iconic Sarides chairs, inspiringly copied from ancient Attic amphorae.
The clients happy contentment and the elation lighting his face, upon first-viewing his
Athenian apartment, was all our team - and certainly mine - most treasured payment in kind.

This is another splendid assignment, especially for core architects. The apartment occupies one of the top floor penthouses, in a legendary
modernist building in Athens, originally the architectural HQ of Doxiades Organisation. This historic building has been acquired recently
and refashioned as a passive energy condominium of stupendously large and luxurious apartments, plus seven subterranean floors of large
communal spa and extended gym and swimming pools, servants quarters, garages, plants and storage rooms - the works, with extreme
electronic surveillance and 24/7 physical security being a major aspect of the development.
The apartment we were assigned to design, re-build, equip and furnish, as well as advising on the art adorning the walls and space, is one of
the two top ones in this major redevelopment project. The client has asked for a stupendously luxurious, post-modernist interior - most of them do!
We have made use of the characteristic exposed concrete a la Le Corbusier ceiling, contrasting it with luxurious finishes, including Pentelic and
Parian marble wall elevations and floors, with under floor (and wall) heating/cooling. The furniture is by Patricia Urquiola and Gerrit Rietveld, the light
by Flos. Again spaciousness and the Attic natural light have been utilised as the paragons of the architecture, with the stupendous living rooms day
or night-time vistas of the Acropolis serving as the vertical axis of the apartment floor planning and living accommodation arranging. The sleeping
- all en-suite bathroom - quarters, the kitchens space etc., all have been worked on the same principles and style.

RESIDENCE IN KEFALARI
Kifissia is one of the leafier suburbs of Athens and Kefalari neighbourhood is the leafiest of it all, mixing Mediterranean forest environment with
olive tree groves. The whole area is housing designated, but gardens are small. The house itself is not externally of an exceptional architecture,
so whatever architectural statement of merit had to be in its interior. The client is a young couple, with busy professional character and a life style
dominated by their careers. Hence the
bedroom accommodates not just sleeping,
but reflective work too. We chose a darkish
(intelligence) grey for the walls, we did away
with the original corridors thus opening the
space and introduced two-sided bookcases,
to semi-partition different functions.
We have coloured the boo-cases in the
colour of olive tree leaves, olive trees being a
dominant future of the external environment.
We provided, apart of the bed and its
side-furniture, a minimalistic desk, a relaxing
sofa, with a flat TV / computer screen,
opposite it.
Also a wide square ottoman in the space close to the wardrobes, to make choosing and putting-on clothes and shoes easy.
The dominant geometrical shape here is the square, intonating this professional couples strong aptitude towards logic and their scientific disciplines.
The double-sized book-cases, the upholstery of the sofa, the ottoman and the bed itself are all intonated by this square logic, as is the wall paper

behind and over the bed, where the square shape is again delicately present on-relief. The client was very happy both with the comfort and ease we
have provided, as well as with the intellectual logicality of it all, matching their personal, all-present inner aptitude, towards life. We were too.

LYCABETUS STR.,
KOLONAKI, ATHENS
Residence in Kefalari
The Athens pied-de-terre of a Greek client, scion of a major shipping family, in the fashionable Kolonaki address, in central Athens.
The apartment of this Bauhaus building has been completely refashioned, rebuild and refurbished to provide comfort and standards
matching the clients young mans life-style and personal aesthetics.
The walls are coloured in a neutral dry jute colour, as are the skirting boards and the door surroundings, creating a muted frame for
the dominant future of the apartment, the characteristic classic parquet floor, creating a retro, Athens bourgeois of older times, feeling.
Private apartment
Apart for the kitchen and the bathrooms, the plan creates
an open-plan, combined bedroom and living space
- the client is young!
The Bauhaus architecture of the building is depicted in the
interior, married to a Japanese-like minimalism, introducing
opaque glass storage spaces doors, which are repeated for
the actual - Japanese screen-like - sound-proof windows,
isolating the apartment from the hustle and bustle of central
Athens, while at the same time are serving as day-time light
sources - all contributing to an abode of calming ambiance.
