Join the sentences using aber (but). Remember to put a comma before aber.
Add extra detail to your sentences using the qualifiers sehr (very), ziemlich (fairly) and

Questions
You can ask questions in German starting with a verb. To form them, just swap around the
verb and the subject (the person doing the action).
Statement: Du gehst reiten. (You go riding.)
Question:
Gehst du reiten? (Do you go riding?)
Try to alter your intonation and make your voice go up a little at the end of the question,
to make it sound different from a statement.
Spielst du Tennis?
1 Du gehst schwimmen.
2 Er hrt Musik.
3 Sie spielt gern Fuball.
4 Du liest gern ein Buch.
5 Wir wohnen in Oxford.
Have you noticed anything about what the answers to this type of question
will be?
Now make up questions using these verbs. Make sure you start with the verb.
Beispiel: fahren
Fhrst du Rad?
1 spielen
hren
2 gehen
wohnen
Questions sometimes start with a question word. Here are the ones you have learnt
in German:
Wann? When?
Was? What?
Wer? Who?
Wie? How?
Wo? Where?

Assessment criteria
Mark for communication only and make allowances
for pronunciation. Allow two marks per correct
answer involving the use of a verb and one mark for
a correct answer without a verb (i.e. giving only the
room). Pupils achieving 7 or more out of 10 are

Read the text about Gregors town. Answer the questions in English.
Senf. Hamburger sind nicht lecker. Was isst du gern und wo?
