CALIBRATION OF PRESSURE

AIM: Calibration of pressure by using pressure transducer set.

THEORY: Digital pressure indicator has been designed for connecting
up to 5 full strain gauges based hybrid pressure transducers. Transducers
bridges are connected to the rear of the unit as per instruction given.
Switching action is accomplished manually by the 5 position Rotary
switch on the front panel which has gold plated contacts for minimum
contact resistance. Balancing network on each input channel has been
provided to null the transducer initially.
The balance potentiometer is screwdriver adjustable with lock nut to
avoid accidental change of initial balance values. Initial and load cycle
reading can then be taken on the indicator by switching individual
transducer bridge manually. Pressure transducer is placed on one side of
the cylinder and transmitter is fixed on other side of the cylinder with
indicator which directly indicates the pressure in the Kg/cm2 pressure
gauge is also placed on the cylinder for the calibration purpose.
The whole arrangement is for transducer, cylinder, transmitter, and
transmitter indicator. Transducer output is directly connected to the
indicator input, which shows the pressure in the PSI.
FUNCTIONAL DETAILS
Input: The input terminals are provided on the rear panel. 4 screwed
terminals each, for each channel, numbered 1 to 4 and corresponding to

Selector Switch: Position gold plated rotary switch to select an

individual pressure transducer
Zero pots: single turn pots provided on the front panel for adjusting the
zero reading of each channel, corresponding to load condition.
Power: 230 + 10%m, single phase, ac input socket provided with
protecting fuse and ON/OFF switch on the rear panel.
Max pressure: up to 6 Kg/cm2 inlet pressure

OPERATION:
a. Connect the pressure transducer to the cylinder as an input of the
transducer indicator.
b. Connect strain gauge bridge based hybrid pressure transducer leads
to terminal nos. 1 to 4 of a channel according to the instruction and
ON the power supply of transducer indicator and transmitter
indicator.
c. Balance the individual transducer bridge by switching each to the
indicator so that a reading of 000 is obtained on the display. An
alternatively flashing -ve sign assures true zero reading.
d. Apply the rated pressure to the cylinder as cylinder inlet pressure
take the precaution that outlet pressure valve is off.
e. See the corresponding reading on the pressure gauge, transmitter
indicator, and transducer indicator (which is in PSI) and calibrate
the pressure.
f. After calibration ON the out let valve of the cylinder for releasing
the pressure from cylinder.

PRECAUTION:

1. Use shielded cables for analog signal connection.

2. Inlet pressure not more than max pressure.
3. Avoid accumulation of dust on the instrument by covering itwith a
polythene cover to avoid causes for interference.
4. Store the unit in well ventilation and moisture free place
