ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Success is a sweet fruit, which everyone strives to taste. To achieve this goal, one has
to put in physical and mental efforts. Each time we write this report, gain strong
appreciation for the following fact: Wecould not do it without the help of many
talented and dedicated people. So we wish to express my appreciation for those whose
help has been most valuable.

Firstly, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to Mr. VipinGupta
(HOD Deptt of ECE ), who explained us everything about minor project process and
made us familiar with the project. We are equally grateful to Er. Mehak, who sorted
out many of our problems regarding the project and gave us the proper material to
work with.

Finally I would like to say thanks to all the faculty and staff of Electronics &
Communication for their kind cooperation.

ABSTRACT
The main object of Home automation is to provide a wireless communication link of
home appliances to the remote user. The main objective of this work is to make such a
system which controls the home appliances remotely. In modern days, we must use
various high-tech machineries and equipments to get our jobs done and make the life
easier. Smart home is one of these types of system equipped with home appliances
which we wish to control smartly from remote location. Some products are
commercially available which allow home appliance controlling through tv remote
which is undoubtedly emerging. But it lacks the true sense of real mobility and
security, making the remote home appliance controlling a limited term than it is
supposed to be. In search of a true remote and adequately secure solution to be really
effective and practicable, Infrared technology is better than any other solutions for
small purpose.
In this report we introduce a new mechanism so that the ordinary services of the
devices that utilize the internet for home automation from remote location can be
leveraged to communicate with and control the home appliances and make our homes
a really smart one i.e. A unique remote control circuit is used to permit the automatic
control of switches and switchboards from a remote location that does not require any
internet network as well as mobile network or battery. The first remote controllers
were developed in the early 1990s, and the first remotes were connected with wires to
devices. Nowadays remotes use infrared control and thus are capable of controlling
several things at a time. The remotes are not only used for entertainment, but also for
industries, military requirements, and recreation. Infrared remote controls were
developed in the late 1970s. These remote controls use infrared light and photo
receptors and different light frequencies for different functions. These remotes also
use invisible light beams to send signals to electronic devices. IR remote controls
today can control several devices at a time as the working abilities of these remotes is
such that a light beam is emitted out by the remote control and is received by a photo
transistor. These remotes receive signals and transmit signals to devices via radio
waves. These remotes can control several appliances, equipment and gadgets like,
radios, TVs, video games, CD/ DVD players, and also applicable in Space(NASA).

The remote control circuit of this invention permits such control with only one lowpower control wire per switch. The remote transmits a tone using an infrared lightemitting diode. This tone is decoded by a receiver having a TSOP, since the receiver
only switches via relay when the tone is received. It is a sound, engineering product
which bears a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter unit is integrated on the
remote control and the receiving unit is fixed at the appliance under control. The
operating range of this switch is around 10 metres. The remote bears its name after the
infrared (IR) sensors used to detect the signals of the transmitter at the receiving unit.
This is what that substitutes the use of wires in the system. The remote control also
bears a red Led for convenience which glows whenever the user pushes the button to
switch the appliance on/off. Grab it for an easy and handy experience with your home
appliances and that too, economically.Whenever an input signal is given to the
remote, it generates a continuous wave pulse with the help of pulse generator (a
multivibrator) which switches on the IR led. The IR signals hence generated by the
led are detected by the sensor at the receiving unit. The sensor then intimates the
device to alter its current state of operation accordingly with the help of a J-K flipflop. Thus every alternate time the switch is pressed, the appliance turns on or off.
