Method
SETTING THE IMPORTANCE
The students will be divided into four groups. The names of the groups will be
given by the teacher. This division will be observed until the end of class. Points are
earned by group through activities. Points can also be given to the students who
participate in class discussion and be counted as part of the groups points.
Mechanics of the Game:
The teacher will give each group something to write on. There will be an
assigned student per group to write down the answer. The teacher will flash images
that make up a phrase/idiom and will ask the students to guess what phrase/idiom
is being shown to them. The group who first answers correctly will be given points.
The following guide questions may be used to elicit the importance of idioms:
1. Enumerate the phrases you have just encountered.
2. When these phrases are used, do you think that they should be taken
literally? Why?
3. What do you think would happen if these phrases are not understood?
4. What are these phrases called?
5. How does your knowledge of idioms affect the way you understand texts and
conversations?
