child who is adopted or fostered, in all cases providing they are living at the same
address. Cousins, nieces, nephews and unrelated children sharing an address with the
applicant are not considered siblings. The older sibling must be continuing at the UTC
at the time of admission of the younger sibling.
In the case of over-subscription, therefore, preference will be given to applicants who
have a sibling already studying at Silverstone UTC. The sibling preference policy is
dependent on available space and does not guarantee admission for each sibling. If
there is oversubscription of siblings, places will be allocated by random selection.
Post 16 admission numbers
Silverstone UTC will publish at the beginning of the academic year prior to admission
(e.g. September 2014 for those seeking admission in September 2015) academic entry
criteria for the post-16 section of the SUTC based upon GCSE/Technical qualification
grades or other measures of prior attainment. For 2015 entry, these are:Silverstone Baccalaureate 8 GCSEs A*-B including Maths and English
Technical Baccalaureate - 5 GCSEs A*-B including Maths and English
Silverstone Extended Diploma - 5 GCSEs A*-C including Maths and English
Further information about these routes can be found on our website.
The UTC operates a sixth form for a total of 300 students at full capacity, therefore
there is capacity for 150 students in Year 12. Applicants from the SUTC Year 11 who
have met the entry criteria will have an automatic right of transfer to the 6 th Form of
the UTC.
The admission number for Year 12 is therefore 12. This is the number of places which
will be offered on an annual basis to eligible external applicants. If fewer than 138 of
the SUTCs own Year 11 students transfer to Year 12, additional external students will
be admitted until Year 12 meets its capacity of 150. The total number of students that
will be admitted to the High Performance Engineering Specialism in Year 12 is 120.
The total number of students that will be admitted to the Business & Technical Events
Management Specialism in Year 12 is 30.
Applications for post 16 places must be received into the UTC main office by the end of
the February half term break of the year of entry.
Maximum numbers on roll are therefore projected to be 276 for KS4 and 300 for KS5
Arrangements for admitting students to other year groups, including
replacing any students who have left Silverstone UTC
Subject to any provisions in the LAs coordinated admission arrangements relating to
applications submitted for years other than the normal year of entry, Silverstone UTC
will consider all such applications and if the year group applied for has a place
available, admit the child. If more applications are received than there are places
available, the oversubscription criteria shall apply. Parents whose application is turned
down shall be entitled to appeal to an independent appeal panel. Please note that due
to the nature of the specialism qualifications and how they are taught, it is advisable
to contact us so that you can understand the implications prior to making an
application.
vacant they will be allocated to children on the waiting list in accordance with the
oversubscription criteria.
7. Where there is space within year 13 (i.e. where there are fewer than 150 pupils in
the year group) the Academy will admit additional pupils up to this number using
random allocation after admitting those children in public care (looked after
children).
8. There will be a right of appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel for internal pupils
refused transfer and external applicants refused admission. Those wishing to
appeal will need to write to the Clerk of the Board of Silverstone UTC at Silverstone
