Resolution Legitimizing the Task Force on Lumad Affairs

A resolution to endorse and legitimize the Atenista Para Sa Lumad as a unit affiliated with the
Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng mga Paaralang Loyola ng Ateneo de Manila.

Whereas, the Sanggunian, as the student government of the Loyola Schools, represents the aims and
aspirations of the student body.
Whereas, the Sanggunian, recognizing the rightful and vital role of the Filipino youth in national
efforts to advance and preserve freedom, democracy, human rights, national dignity and interest,
social justice, unity, peace, and development in Philippine society, shall raise Ateneo student bodys
critical awareness of and proactive response to issues and their root causes affecting the life of the
nation and the Filipino people1.
Whereas, the Central Board has the power to create departments, committees, staffs, task forces,
and offices as may be necessary to discharge specific functions of the board2.
Whereas, the Sanggunian recognizes the urgency of action in solidarity with the indigenous peoples
of Mindanao collectively known as the Lumad, and sympathizes with them in their plight.
Whereas, as the student government of a Catholic, Jesuit university, the Sanggunian is committed to
a faith that does justice, and believes that it is urged by this identity to act to condemn the
injustices committed to the Lumad, and to stand in solidarity with them.
Wherefore, be it resolved that the Task Force on Lumad Affairs shall be Ateneos official student
group in setting the direction for the student bodys efforts in solidarity with the Lumad.
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Sanggunian shall invite the existing research and working
group composed of various organizations to constitute the core of members of the Task Force.
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Sanggunian Central Board shall open the applications for
Head of the Task Force upon approval of this resolution, and shall set a deadline that shall fall not
more than fifteen (15) days after the approval of this resolution.
Wherefore, be it further resolved that research and awareness campaigns shall constitute the critical
first stages of the Task Forces operations.
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Task Force shall submit, before January 31, 2016, a
comprehensive report and plan of action for the Sanggunians involvement in the Lumad issue,
although this deadline shall not be construed as to mean that the Sanggunian cannot commit to
action earlier than the deadline.

Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Task Force may, with the Central Boards approval enter
into external partnerships with other institutions concerned in the plight of the Lumad, and may,
upon notifying the Central Board, engage in partnerships with organizations in the Ateneo.
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Head of the Task Force shall submit a proposed structure
for the Task Force with the corresponding subheads/officers.
Wherefore, be it further resolved that, in the interest of transparency, the Task Force shall report to
the Central Board as per request of the latter, and that all its documents in final form shall be made
accessible to the student body through the Central Board.
Wherefore, be it finally resolved that, with the approval of the Central Board by a majority vote, this
resolution shall take effect immediately.
