Subscriber Data Management Overview

The mobile experience is evolving in response to subscribers expectations for anytime, anywhere access to the content, communities, and personal connections they
demandregardless of the network or device theyre using at the time. The core network environment too, is shifting as the integration of new and faster technologies
introduces additional levels of complexity into an already intricate network ecosystem. The HP Subscriber Data Management solutions helps to answer these challenges by
correlating and managing subscriber data, including identity, status, preferences, behavior, and social profiles through the use of sophisticated, network-ready enablers,
products, and complete solutions. These help simplify network management and improve the customer experience by building a single view of the subscriber across domains.
This single view enables mobile network operators to better know their subscribers, apply policy decisions that lead to a higher levels of service that help to reduce churn, and
generate new revenue opportunities.

Subscriber Data Management - Unified Profile: Unified User Profile

Solution description

Solution value

Coupling a detailed understanding of subscriber preferences, context, and behavior,

with the agility to respond with tailored subscriber experiences, can significantly
impact a service providers competitive positioning. HP Unified Profile provides a
single view of personal, contextual, and behavioral information about a subscriber
e.g., personal profile elements, applications, preferences, activities, devices, interests,
data security controls, and user-generated content. These can be used to support,
enhance, and influence subscriber experiences and behaviors, while also serving a
service providers general business interests, Operations, revenue generation, data
security and integrity, business partnerships, market and business agility, and market
leadership can all benefit from this subscriber insight. HP Unified Profile enables
a richer subscriber experience by enabling this information to be leveraged by
applications and services within and beyond the mobile operators domain, including
leverage by external Web-based services.

Supports any subscriber data management strategy, including:

o Federation -- presents to an application a virtual aggregation of the data as
if it resides in a central store, while keep that data secure in its current
location and structure
o Data consolidation -- eliminates database redundancies by migrating the data
they contain to a central store
o Replication using dynamic copies of existing data, supports centralized
(single-source) provisioning (hub-and-spoke), multi-way data synchronization
(multi-master), and centralized data caching (enterprise service bus
architecture)
o Any combination of the above approaches across data stores

The solution takes a holistic approach which minimizes the impact on application
operations across the network while supporting key master data management
initiatives. This enables faster delivery of new service to market and the
development of new applications that leverage profile information obtained from
disparate data sources.
The solution includes HP Virtual Identity and Profile Broker (HP VIP Broker) and HP
OpenCall Profile Manager, as well as consultation and implementation services.

Service Delivery Framework Overview

HP gives you the tools to consistently and cost-effectively deliver rich services to
eager consumers. The HP Service Delivery Platform (SDP) was built to optimize
service innovation and monetize network and partner assets. It enables end-to-end
governance, policy control, and management of converged services, no matter
where they come frominternal, third-party developers, or advanced consumers.
The increasing complexity of mobile services and device proliferation requires the
adoption of a holistic approach to mobile device management and testing and
certification to ensure a rapid return on investment, reduce service launch risks, and
deliver more enjoyable user experiences.
HP Service Delivery PlatformUnleash the power of Web 2.0 to create
and monetize service innovation, and empower third-party partners to easily
generate targeted, converged services that drive revenue. The HP SDP is a standardsbased solution designed to enable the development, delivery, and management of

developer ecosystem.
HP Mobile Device ManagementGrow revenue while cutting operational
expenses with standards-based capabilities for device configuration and
management, diagnostics, profile-based customization, and much more. These
services can be provided directly through HP CMS delivery, or as an outsourced
service via EDS, an HP company.
HP Testing and CertificationBased on HP industry standard business
technology optimization (BTO) products and partner products, these solutions allow
you to cut days, weeks, or even months off the testing process for internal and
third-party offerings, as well as for new devices. We address component validation,
service governance, change management, and every part of the overall customer
experience.

Improve the speed of new service creation, monetize assets, and contain and manage
service delivery costs, with the HP SDP Service Governance Framework (SGF). By
applying seamless and holistic service governance, HP SGF enables new applications
to be more rapidly developed and deployed, and better managed across service
delivery channels, Operations Support Systems (OSS), and Business Support Systems
(BSS). Through the framework, outside developers can securely access and use simple
service enablers to create more sophisticated applications and serviceswithout
needing to have a detailed knowledge of the underlying systems. This capability has
become even more vital as service wholesalers and advanced consumers increasingly
use these service building blocks to create their own service mash-ups.

Services Delivery Platform - HP Service Enablement

Solution description
HP Service Delivery Platform (HP SDP) Service Enablement provides service
enablers to be used as building blocks by HP SDP to create cost-effective revenue
streams on a Web-based platform. These enablers include location, messaging, call
control, conferencing, device profile, content download, digital rights, presence,
notification, and user profile. Service enablers provide an abstraction layer on top
of network assets to simplify service development; they are offered to applications
and are used to build more sophisticated end user services. Network gateways
translate various network capabilities and protocols into common, simplified API
sets for service development, interaction, and deployment. Third-party independent
software vendors (ISVs) may be granted secure access to these service enablers,
access to which is managed through the HP SDP Service Governance Framework.

The HP Service Delivery Platform Service Enablement layer consists of three elements:
1. Off-the-shelf feature servers, which provide a predefined set of capabilities, such

HP Mobile Device Management

Solution description
HP Mobile Device Management (HP MDM) solutions help mobile operators increase
revenue by enabling the delivery of value-added content and services while decreasing
the operational expenses associated with providing new services. HP MDM is a
complete end-to-end solution, encompassing everything from device configuration
to firmware OTA, integrating standards-based hardware with best-in-class partner
software. HP MDM covers the specific needs of consumer and business subscribers,
and can be offered as an outsourced service via EDS, an HP company, or as a direct
project via HP CMS Delivery.
HP MDM solutions include:
(U)SIM management: manages operator and subscriber data stored on the
Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card
Automatic device detection (ADD): real-time network component that is able to
detect when subscribers are changing their device and to trigger external systems like a
Device Configuration system with up-to-date triplet (IMSI/IMEI/MSISDN)
Direct messaging platform: creates a bi-directional SMS tunnel between the
network and the device/SIM to deliver the settings to the devices detected by the ADD,
or to reduce the time required to execute a large over-the-air (OTA) SIM campaign, or to
improve the interaction between the end user and a back-end server for dynamic, SIM
tool kit-related, value-added services
Unified Device Capability Repository (UDCR): allows operators to analyze their
device population based on features criteria and to centralize all device profiles data
into a single repository
Advanced device management engine: enables the creation and automation of
device management tasks based on business rules
Campaign manager: enables the creation and execution of a predefined set of
MDM tasks campaign for a large number of subscribers/devices

Device configuration: enables the operator to send the appropriate configuration

settings for the subscribers to access mobile data services
Device diagnostic: provides tools to query, in real time, the end users phone, spot
any potential issues, and suggest appropriate actions to correct issues or show the end
user how to use the phone by taking control of that phone with the end users consent
Software and firmware management: provides operators and handset
manufacturers with device software component management to remotely manage the
software and firmware of the handsets over the air, or via point-of-sale tools
Device customization engine: enables mobile phone user interfaces, such as
menus and background, to be customized based on end-user profiles and device
profiles in order to improve the usage experience and encourage the maximum take-up
of mobile data services
Service quality manager: enables operators to retrieve, through the use of an
agent on the (U)SIM or on the terminal itself, the real-time data related to either end-user
interactions or radio network quality
Device data synchronization: gives subscribers the ability to save, add, edit, and
delete data via a friendly Web-based mobile user interface
Security and enterprise: provides enterprise customer IT managers with the correct
tools to scan device content, lock devices, and erase data remotely, among other
features
CMS Universal MDM Platform: When ADD is combined with UDCR, it creates a
real-time inventory of which devices are being used by which subscribers. This means
it can support a full-blown Equipment Identity Register (EIR) and become the central
platform to manage devices.

HP Testing and Certification

Solution description
Service quality is critical to service adoption and customer satisfaction. Before services
can be offered to consumers, they must be tested and validated for quality, security,
scalability, and functionality across a range of digital devices. Traditional testing and
validation uses manual processes, delaying certification and service introduction.
The CMS Testing and Certification Suite of solutions, based on HP industry standard
business technology optimization (BTO) products and partner products, automates
and accelerates the overall testing process for the launch of new services and devices.
The suite provides validation for service components, service governance processes,
and all elements that impact the total customer experience. In addition, the overall
solution addresses services lifecycle management, including change management for
applications and services.
Three modular, pre-integrated components comprise the suite; each can be implemented
individually or as part of a comprehensive offering:

Services Experience Testing, which automates the operators service and device
testing process and addresses the following key use cases:
- End-to-end service monitoring
- Service testing on devices
- Device testing and certification
Services Quality Testing, which helps operators define service quality processes
across both traditional telecom and new SOA/SDP environments for internal and
third-party services. The solution addresses the following testing areas:
- Application testing, an automated testing platform for both functional and
regression testing of applications
- Service enabler testing, which validates and exercises services, service
enablers, and services brokered through the SDP
- ISV applications self-certification, for automating certification of ISV services
against SOA best practices, security, and development standards
Services Performance Testing, to reveal how each element of a service will scale and
how those elements will work together, before the service ever reaches the end user.
It is aimed at SOA/SDP implementations and, for example, performs stress testing on
service enablers.

Business Services - HP Aggregation Platform For SaaS solutions

Solution description

Solution value

The HP Aggregation Platform for SaaS is positioned to facilitate and standardize the
processes for service providers to enable a SaaS business model and product offering
for communication and IT services. The Aggregation Platform eases the integration
of these IT/communication SaaS services into the service provider environment and
expedites the delivery to SMB customers. The Aggregation Platform is also a key
component of the HP Communications as a Service (HP CaaS) program, providing
wireless, wireline, and broadband companies with four key business applications
(unified communications, self-service interactive voice response, IP contact centers, and
video surveillance) that can grow the enterprise side of their businesses by providing
SMBs with one-stop shop outsourcing. The HP Aggregation Platform for SaaS also
provides a means for service providers to extend their offerings to infrastructure as a
service, management as a service, and custom offerings.

The HP Aggregation Platform for SaaS:

From the service provider perspective, the Aggregation Platform for SaaS serves as
the single point of access for all applications (SaaS services). It enables operators to
create a SaaS marketplace portal where SMB customers can discover SaaS products

User provisioning into SaaS services

Customer charging by leveraging the existing service providers BSS systems
Support charging models relevant to SaaS business model (trial, subscription,
and pay-per-use)

Enables the rapid introduction of relevant revenue-generating services leveraging

SaaS delivery and business model
Helps reduce the capital expenses service provider incur as they launch new
services by enabling single integration into service provider OSS/BSS
Helps manage a large portfolio of services with limited effort
Enables launch of new services with a limited investment and risk
Facilitates the creation of attractive packages/bundles for various market
segments, including IT and communication services
Keeps and attracts new end users with a flexible SaaS Marketplace Portal where
customers can discover, test, buy, and manage their services

Why HP?
Suite of market-validated communication solutions, providing fast ROI

Media Control - HP Control Room

Solution description
High service quality is critical to customer satisfaction, and expanded content choices
are now the norm. As a result, the costs of monitoring large numbers of video
feedsoften 100 separate feeds or morefor quality at various points along the
workflow is pressuring the bottom line. The expense of monitoring and maintenance
is compounded by the common use of proprietary multi-image display hardware that
requires backhauling channels over expensive traditional video networks.
The HP Control Room solution uses off-the-shelf HP workstations and servers to receive
and view multiple unicast or multicast streams in a variety of formats. It then places
and scales them onto a single display with full video and audio monitoring and
enhanced alerts for situational awareness via traditional feed monitoring combined
with operational support systems (OSS). The solution features a scalable and
configurable tool that enables your organization to encode multiple IP and baseband
video feeds and store months of archived content. A simple and intuitive Web-based
system is used for content retrieval, making it easier than ever for users to find and
view content. The solution is made up of three software products: HP Video Wall for
displaying the IP feeds, HP Media Monitor for situational awareness, and HP Ingest
Archive for the efficient archiving of distributed content.
The HP Control Room solution delivers end-to-end IP monitoring and archiving
capabilities using state-of-the-art, standards-based technologies. It is backed by HPs
experience designing, delivering, and deploying complex infrastructure solutions, and
addresses the key operational challenges facing todays media and entertainment
companies and service providers. These include managing quality of experience
across complex distribution architectures, responding to service issues rapidly by
integrating video and service events, and controlling the costs of real-time archival
operations while supporting regulatory compliance.

Reduces integration cost of probes and alert management through a centralized

Media Control - HP Traffic Control

Solution description
The volume and types of content offered to consumers continues to grow and
distribution channels proliferate, making it difficult to get the right content and
advertising to the right consumer at the right time. In addition, the contracts
surrounding content and advertising typically specify content delivery within specified
timeframes, with significant penalties for failure to meet these obligations.
The HP Traffic Control solution simplifies all scheduling operations into a single, unified,
and highly automated system that enables you to schedule syndicated content and
interstitials for multiple delivery platforms. Now Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB), IPTV,
WebTV, and 3G services can all be scheduled at the same time. The operations are
performed quickly, accurately, and with reduced headcount requirements.
The HP Traffic Control solution features HP software and off-the-shelf hardware to
provide key capabilities within a service-oriented architecture (SOA) framework.
This framework simplifies management of digital media workflowsfrom
content syndication to scheduling issues to distribution/presentation. The solution
accommodates the ingestion of various video/audio digital media content via
existing workflows, and then can generate playlists via an intuitive scheduling Web
application. These playlists define Video on Demand (VOD) or linear streaming
in specified timeslots for the video/audio digital media content that is to be sent

Product description
HP Virtual Identity and Profile Broker (HP VIP-B) provides secure single-point,
single-transaction access to user-centric data that is dispersed across multiple
independent data stores. It presents a virtual view of user-centric data to requesting
applications via a central interface and single protocol. Native security controls
for authentication, authorization and access are delivered through HP and solution
partner technologies, while the solutions virtual aggregation capabilities offer
protocol independence, and allow the operator to choose a single standard
protocol to access this user data. By giving an application independence from
complex data access tasks, HPs VIP Broker quickly impacts the subscriber
experience while minimizing the mobile network operators investment. The broad
coverage of HP VIP Brokers query and reporting capabilities provides a high
degree of personalized service to subscribers because it aggregates data from
across the mobile network and beyond.

HP Equipment Identity Register

Product description

HP EIR

The HP Equipment Identity Register (HP EIR) provides a centralized, highly-scalable

database for storing the unique identification numbers that are assigned to each
of the mobile devices operating within a mobile network. These numbers, known
as the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), are primarily designed to act
as a preventative measure against the use of stolen handsets and for controlling
the serious threats from fraud and potential criminal activities associated with
untraceable usage of such handsets. With the HP solution, Individual IMEIs can be
listed in the allowed list until they are reported as stolen. At that point, they are
moved to the disallow list and calls made from the device with the specified IMEI
are not processed. This capability helps service providers protect their brand and
improve compliance with government regulations surrounding handset security,
while offering subscribers additional protections.

Products - HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform (HP OC-USP)

and HP OpenCall Internet Protocol Signaling Transfer Gateway (HP OCIP-STG)
Product description
HP OpenCall Universal Signaling Platform (USP) is an integrated, standards-based
signaling platform which serves as the foundation for developing and deploying
a wide range of advanced telco-grade solutions. HP USP enables existing
applications to evolve smoothly toward all-IP infrastructure, using any combination
of protocols (SS7, SIGTRAN). Robust, proven, highly efficient, and reliable, its an
cost-effective platform for building and deploying new solutions.
A key part of USP platform is the HP OpenCall Internet Protocol Signaling
Transfer Gateway (IP-STG), which ensures the network connectivity to both SS7
and SIGTRAN. IP-STG can be deployed as a standalone product, transporting
SS7 traffic over IP SIGTRAN networks. OpenCall IP-STG also provides an STP-Lite
function, complementing core network STP and concentrating regional signaling
traffic to core STP, and allowing for a cost-effective, geographically-dispersed
network access point. It helps bridge the next-generation IP networks and the SS7
network, enabling service providers to connect present and future applications
across multiple networks.
The HP OpenCall signaling portfolio accommodates the convergence of fixed,
mobile, and broadband technologies, reducing the cost of operating networks,
streamlining the introduction of new services, and simplifying migration from
inflexible, vertically siloed legacy environments to IP environments that support
innovative next-generation services.
