function
Primacord detonating cord, except for Detacord , when detonated has the initiating energy of a blasting cap at all points along its entire
length. The Primacord detonating cord detonates at a speed of approximately 7000m/s. Primacord trunklines will initiate any number of
additional lengths, extensions or branch lines through correctly tied connections or knots. When used as a down line, the explosive supplier
should be consulted as to the sensitivity and compatibility of cord and explosives used.

description
Primacord detonating cord is simple in design and use. The high explosive core is encased in various protective coverings developed to
withstand the many conditions encountered in the fi eld. The difference between the standard types of Primacord detonating cord is
essentially the core load coupled with a difference in the degree of protection afforded by the encasements. Various combinations of
materials such as textiles and plastics cover the raw PETN (Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate) core. The textiles used provide tensile strength
and fl exibility, as well as resistance to abrasion and cutting, extremes of heat and cold or water and oil penetration.

quality

ll products are brightly coloured for easy identification in storage and in the field. All explosives are
A
classified as dangerous goods and can cause personal injury if not handled correctly.
Primacord detonating cords will still initiate through knots, kinks and water. It has excellent abrasive
resistance properties.
Primacord detonating cords are factory manufactured to order under stringent quality control to adhere
to specifications.

product information & applications

Detacord

etacord detonating cord will detonate through standard knots and will initiate other detonating cords. Most cap
D
sensitive explosives, detonating relays and cast boosters are insufficiently sensitive to be initiated by Detacord.
Confirmation of compatibility should be obtained from the manufacturer. Detacord detonating cord is flexible, easy to
handle, readily ties and holds knots. Detacord is commonly used for surface, quarrying, construction or underground
blasting applications. Detacord can also be used as surface trunklines or lead-in-lines when used in conjunction with
shock tube Primadet accessories.

E-cord
E -cord is flexible and easy to handle which readily ties and holds knots. E-cord detonating cord is commonly used as
a surface trunkline, lead-in-line and down line. E-cord detonating cord will detonate through standard knots and will
initiate other detonating cords.
E-cord is not recommended for underground use or applications.
I n all applications, some cast boosters can not be reliably initiated by E-cord detonating cord. The manufacturer of
the booster should be consulted before using E-cord detonating cord in this manner.

SB cord TM

S B cordTM is designed for secondary blasting. SB cordTM does not exhibit the tensile and abrasive resistant properties of the
other Primacord detonating cords due to the exclusion of the outer layers of protective yarns and wax. SB cordTM is
compatible with all cap sensitive products and can be used with detonating relays. SB cordTM detonating cord will
detonate through standard knots and will initiate other detonating cords.

SB cordTM is not recommended for underground use or applications.

Zapcord
apcord detonating cord possesses all the handling and reliability advantages of the other Primacord detonating
Z
cords. Zapcord is recommended to be used as trunklines and downlines in severe surface or underground blasting
applications. It is most commonly used as a downline where continuity throughout the column is to be ensured.

Zapcord 40

apcord 40 detonating cord possesses all the handling and reliability advantages of the other Primacord detonating
Z
cords. It is recommended for use as downlines in severe blasting applications. It is most commonly used for demolition
work, trim blasting, pre-splitting and landmine clearance.

important instructions

Always store detonators and explosives separately.

Keep detonating cord away from sparks, fl ames or any other source of ignition.

Store explosives according to the country rules & regulations.

Always knot the end of the cord, to avoid water ingress (fi gure one).

Always keep loose ends as short as possible (fi gure two).

All Primacord detonating cord connections should be pulled tight so that the two lines make positive contact.

The clove hitch is recommended for connecting downlines to trunklines or branch lines.

It is also very important that all branch line connections are kept at right angles (fi gure three).

Make sure that all Primacord detonating cord lines are devoid of loops and kinks and prevent lines crossing
over each other (fi gure four).

Only a sharp knife should be used to cut cord and never use a scissor-type cutting device.

With underground or small applications, it is recommended to ring-feed to avoid possible misfi res (fi gure fi ve).

Avoid any acute angles (fi gure six).

Initiation of the Primacord detonating cord may be done using an Instantaneous Electric Detonator (IED)
(fi gures seven & eight).
