football has long had an important place in British culture. While it is not the
only national sport, is often the most watched sporting event in the country.
England can claim many "firsts" in the history of football, as the first game
and the first official rules.
Middle Ages
Football history dates back to the Middle Ages in England. Early reviews of a
sport like football can be found in records from 1280. Some games were
banned when the action turned violent at the time and King Henry IV
declared it illegal betting on football matches. However, it became a popular
sport among the English ruling class and wealthy.
Development rules
In the nineteenth century, several sets of rules to regulate the parties arose.
Cambridge rules first arrived in 1848. According to the website soccer-fansinfo.com, the current rules were not known but "supposedly are the basis on
which the" rules "were built later." When the Football Association (FA for
short) was formed in 1863, its members wrote their own set of rules which
advanced farther calls that football rules used yet.
Professional
The English club Sheffield FC, founded in 1857, is considered the first
professional football team in the world. The club teams continued to
dominate the English game until 1888, when the first professional league
was formed. The Football League had 12 teams in the first year. In 1892 it
added a second division and further expansion occurred. In 2010, the league
had 72 teams in four different game levels.
Outstanding individuals
Some of the greatest personalities of football in England, including William
McGregor, who created the first league. Some star players are George Best,
Frank Lampard and especially for fans after the year 2000, David Beckham.
At its best, Beckham was captain of the national team and his fame in
England was not matched by any other athlete. His amazing ability was so
well known that served as the title of a movie in 2002, "Bend it like
Beckman" (Bend It Like Beckham). The main character of the film idolized
