Your step-by-step guide

to Snapchat
(with screenshots)

Step 1:
Download Snapchat on your device and sign up
to create a new account.

Sign up with your e-mail address and enter your

password.

Snapchat will ask your for your birthday. Make

sure you fill in the correct date.

Step 2:
Snapchat asks for your mobile number as a
verification method. You will receive a personal
code to activate your account.

Snapchat will ask you to accept the Terms &

Conditions.

You're ready to go!

Step 3:
This is how your main screen looks like - this is
the camera mode.

A little ghost on top navigates you to your

profile. It also shows how many friends follow
you.

Tap on the big circle to take a photo. To start

filming, press the button for longer.

The left bottom icon takes you to your chat

window (next step) and right bottom icon takes
you to Stories page.

Step 4:
Snapchat will take you either to the camera
screen or to this window.

This is your history of chats, e.g. there's already

one from Team Snapchat by default.

To add your new friends or start chatting, click

on the icon in the top left corner.

Step 5:
This is where you choose who to chat with.

This is a list of your friends who are available on

Snapchat.

Click on one of them and a new chat window will

open.

Step 6:
This is how the chat window looks like. Simply
start typing and click send.

You can also send a snap with the text on it

(next slide). Just press the yellow button for the
camera screen.

Your message will appear immediately in the

chat. If you send a photo, you will see if it was
delivered.

Step 7:
This is how Snapchat looks like when you want to
send a snap to someone.

After clicking the yellow button, the text already

appears in here. You can further edit it by clicking
the T icon.

Snapchat also offers filters. Simply swipe to the

right to see how your photo looks like with the
filter on.

Swipe or click on the arrow in the footer to send

it to your friend!

Step 8:
When chatting with your friend, click on the menu

"hamburger" icon (

horizontal lines).

Technically, there is no such thing on Snapchat

as "Profile Page" - here you can check your
friend's username and snaps.

You can edit their name (how they appear on your

Snapchat) and block or remove them.

Step 9:
If you're wondering how YOUR profile looks like,
just go back to the main screen - the camera
mode.

Click on the little ghost on the top and your

profile will appear. If you want to change your
name just click on it and edit screen will show up.

"Added me" shows how many new friends added

you.

"Add Friends" opens a new window (next step).

"My Friends" goes to the list of all your friends

(following step).

Step 10:
You can add friends in

different ways.

The simplest one is by typing their usernames.

Step 11:
Make sure you know the username of your
friend.

Snapchat doesn't suggest any friends to you this is why it's important to type in the exact
username.

A new feature is added - celebrities that post

their "Official Stories" have an emoji attached to
their usernames. Hence when searching for
"Justin B... (you know who) will show a very
popular Justin with an icon next to his username.

Step 12:
If you want to add your friends from your address
book, Snapchat will ask you to allow access to
your phone.

Step 13:
An address Book will appear showing all contacts
that are on Snapchat.

Simply click on the plus sign to add them.

You will be notified when they add you back.

Step 14:
That's my favorite method of adding friends
- Snapcodes!

Simply take a screenshot or a picture of your

friend's profile picture (usually it's the ghost).
You can do the same for your favorite brand.

Tap this photo and Snapchat will scan it (just like

QR code) and come back with the question to
add the person.

The yellow photo in my stream shows me that I

added the person already.

Step 15:
Let's take you back to the camera mode.

When you swipe to the right or click on the

hamburger icon, "Stories" window opens.

This is where magic happens for brands.

Stories are collections of snaps and short videos.

You can publish your story as well and it will be live
for

24

hours.

Search for specific usernames, click on Discover

for more information (next step), see what is
currently live or what your friends posted.

Step 16:
Discover window has a selection of premium
publishers that share custom content with
Snapchatters.

When clicking on any of them, you'll be redirected

to their environment within Snapchat.

Step 17:
Click e.g. on Mashable to read their articles,
selection of best mobile apps and short videos.

Navigation is quite simple - just swiple to the right

for more stories.

Step 18:
In case you're lost here, Snapchat comes back
with reminder instructions showing you the
possible options to swipe, share, save and close
this story.

Step 19:
This is one of the stories from the brands
themselves. I followed one from O'Neill Womens.

It's a collection of short movies and photos

clipped in a short story.

(There's a tiny clock in the top right corner - it

shows how long the screen is displayed. If you
want to see the next one, just click on the clock
and continue pressing)

Step 20:
Time to publish my story!

Go to the camera screen, take a picture (or a selfie

by flipping the camera mode), and edit it.

Add emoji, text or change the color of the font.

The clock icon in the bottom left corner will ask

you to select how long the snap will show on your
friends' app.

Step 21:
When clicking on the clock, Snapchat will give you
the option to select the amount of seconds longetivity of your snap.

You can select from

1 10
-

seconds.

Step 22:
The second icon will save your snap on your phone.

Third icon (with the plus symbol) will ask you to

publish the story.

You can create a new snap and add it to the same

story published before. It simply updates your
story.

Step 23:
Snapchat also offers Analytics!

If you publish your story, you can see how many

"eyeballs" watched it.

Look out for an eye icon with the number next to it.
My first story got

views!

Step 24:
If you want to see who viewed your story, click on
it and simply swipe to the top.

A new window will appear with all users that

viewed it.

A second icon next to the eyeball shows you how

many people took a screenshot of your story and
saved it on their phones.

Step 25:
You might wonder what the trophy icon means.

Click on it to discover how many trophies you

gathered. I'm quite new here, so I only have one - I
can send a snap with one filter on.

There are different ways to get more trophies, e.g.

sending X amout of video snaps.

FINAL Step:
I've explained all major functions and user
experience on Snapchat.

This is the last step.

Start exploring, snapping and most of all HAVE FUN!!!
