The Clipsal by Schneider Electric/
Julian Burton Burns Trust recently
made a donation to the Royal
Flying Doctor Service (Queensland
section) to enable the purchase of
20 pressure relief mattresses and
trolley mattress overlays, to assist
in the transfer of burns patients.
Fifty cents from the sale of every
Clipsal Firetek smoke alarm is
contributed to the Julian Burton Burns
Trust, to support their work of
alleviating the pain and suffering of
burns patients across Australia.
The RFDS was established 86 years
ago and today provides 24-hour
emergency care to 80 percent of
Australia via a modern fleet of specially
equipped aircraft.
No patient is more than two
hours away from help, with their
motto being, finest care to the
furthest corner.

In Queensland, the RFDS QLD

operates from eight bases Brisbane,
Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Townsville,
Cairns, Mt Isa, Charleville and
Longreach.

Tony Sommerville gets to know some of the RFDS dedicated employees.

In acknowledgement of the donation,

Tony Summerville, Commercial
Training and Development Manager
based at Eagle Farm, recently
attended an event celebrating 20
years of the Royal Flying Doctor
Service Queensland Section, at
Brisbane Airport.
The event was held in the RFDS
hangar, allowing Tony the opportunity
for a close look at one of the RFDS
planes and to speak to doctors,
nurses and ancillary staff.
Also in attendance were twins Emily
and Chloe, with their parents. The
twins had very early experience of the
invaluable service provided by the
RFDS, having been born 11 weeks
premature and requiring transfer to
Brisbane for specialist care.

Tony told One Source, I found the

story of Emily and Chloe incredibly
moving and am extremely proud of
our association with the RFDS. It is
very pleasing to see the grant go to
such a worthy cause.

Vijeo Citect 2015

Spice Employee Portal

Vijeo Citect 2015 is now released, and
the team is proud to claim across-theboard performance improvements and
new functionality, as well as
enhancements to the upgrade process
from many previous versions.
In early 2014, the then Industry - Plant
Solutions - O&O group, commenced
development on Vijeo Citect 2015.
Looking back over the past year, both
the teams and the projects have
endured one constant; change.
From the acquisition of Invensys and
the formation of Global Solutions
Software, to the adaption from Agile to
a Scaled Agile Framework, the team
remained committed to the challenges
of the project.
During the development of this release
we put particular focus on alarm
system architecture, delivering up to
75x faster server processing and page

display up to 3x faster than previous

releases. The development teams also
took on the challenge of upgrading the
configuration of more than 15
customer projects in a single day,
resulting in improvements to the
upgrade process, whereby
customers can perform an online
upgrade from v7.20, and offline
upgrade from v5.21+ directly to 2015
(excluding alarm history).
Throughout the project, the validation
team worked in lockstep with
verification, maintaining detailed
performance results and feature
validation. At the end of the project
proclaiming Vijeo Citect 2015 is
the new benchmark for customers
to adopt!
Other highlights of this release include:
Partial Associations allow you to
configure and maintain super genies

and pop-up pages by reducing
complexity and removing the need
for Cicode or extensive metadata.
.NET Cicode Functions allow you
to easily extend your systems
functionality by interfacing with
external .NET assemblies
through Cicode.
Backup and Restore Included
Projects more efficient, with the
ability to backup and restore a
complete project along with all its
Included Projects.
Incremental Equipment Update
speeds up configuration creation
and update by only processing
equipment and equipment types
that have been modified since the
last update.

Integrated Equipment Graphics

simplifies the process of deploying
multiple equipment instances on a
projects graphics page.
Natively run as a Windows service
to allow for automated server
operation on hardware start-up and
continuous server operation across
multiple user logins.
Vijeo Citect 2015 is the upgrade target
for all customers. We will be promoting
the release and reasons to upgrade
over the coming few weeks through
direct marketing and on social media.

Spice Employee Portal

Chalmers shines at awards
After much planning and a lot of
work, by a lot of people, the Spice
Employee Portal was officially
launched last week.
Events across most sites throughout
Australia added to the excitement, with
mocktails and pizza on the menu.

A video message from Gareth OReilly

encouraged us all to embrace the new
portal and the opportunities it presents
in our quest to become more focussed
on digital.
Spice Guides were also available to
answer any questions and help make
the transistion from SWEBI
as smooth as possible.
So, now that the portal is
officially our digital internal
communication platform,
how can you get the most
out of it?
Youll find the deeper you
dig, the more youll
discover. Here are a couple
of suggestions to begin
exploring to see where they
lead you.

Follow this link to take a look at the

Why were here page. It is
packed with interesting information
with a sustainability focus, employee
stories, and many links to continue
your journey and learn more.
Look for the new Share
Link function, located in
the top r/h corner of the
story youre reading, to
quickly copy and paste
the direct link to share
with your colleagues.
Dont forget, there are still
plenty of resources
available if you get stuck or
have any questions.
Download the SPICE Guide
for Newbies here.

Check out the video here.

Post your local or global questions to
Spice Social.
Plus, face-to-face training is being
organised upon request at a site level.

TORGAS Awards Night

Helping the RFDS

Vijeo Citect 2015

Spice Employee Portal

Schneider Electrics Chalmers
Underwood was the big winner at
the recent TORGAS Awards Night,
held at Jupiters Hotel and Casino.
First he won the Most Outstanding
4th Year Electrical Apprentice of
the Year and then was named the
TORGAS Owen T Jones QLD
Apprentice of the Year - the ultimate
award for apprentices.
Chalmers sister, along with colleagues
from the Buildings Business were
there to celebrate this huge
achievement with him. Not that
Chalmers isnt used to recognition and
awards; he also won the Most
Outstanding Electrical Apprentice in
his first and third year.
Chalmers was nominated for the
award by Buildings Business Team
Leader, Tony Forster, who had this
to say about this outstanding
young employee:

Installation
Chalmers retrofitted the Building
Automation system in three buildings
at Lavarack Barracks last year, the
system controls air-conditioning and
lighting throughout the building. This
also included learning how to program
a new product that nobody in our
branch knew how to do. He
persevered and made it work.
Engineering
Chalmers engineered and
commissioned a power metering
system for the Australian Tax office in
Townsville. This entailed creating web
style graphical interfaces for the
property manger to be able to easily
access and generate power bills for
the different tenants in the building.
He is also in the process of retrofitting
the Mater Hospital central chilled
water energy plant, which supplies

and Tony Forster (Service Team Leader - Buildings Business).

air-conditioning for the whole hospital.

This includes de-commissioning old
hardware and replacing it with new
state of the art controls. This tested all
of Chalmers skills, including wiring
installation and panel design, as well
as creating all the software required to
make the 4 Megawatt chilled water
plant operate efficiently.
Of course the real challenge was
doing it on a live hospital. All of
these tasks have been completed
95% unsupervised.
Communication
Chalmers understands that because
his team and managers are all time
poor, he needs to be efficient in the
way he communicates. Hence he will
normally use email or some other form
of written communication, rather than

just pick up the phone and possibly

interrupt one of his peers.
I also put Chalmers on the spot by
getting him to make a presentation
during a training session for Townsville
Hospital Engineering staff. Some
Q-health executives were in the room
and this was his first time speaking
to an audience. He did very well and
I had great pleasure in telling the
audience later, that he was still
an apprentice.
Tony and the rest of the Buildings
Business team are extremely proud
of Chalmers achievements, as are
we all. If you happen to come across
him in the near future, be sure to
give him a pat on the back and tell
him well done.
