Pathways Kids Weekend Small Groups

This Curriculum is for the 6, 7, and 8 year olds.

This Weeks Scope

We are continuing to work on the campaign from Compassion International called Bite Back
targeted to prevent the outbreak of Malaria in many places, specifically in Uganda. Did the kids
remember to bring their offering containers? Did they remember to bring any change? We will
be completing another activity with Bite Back in addition to regular curriculum.
Bible Story: God Loves Us, Everyone (God showed His love) 1 John 4:9-12
Bottom Line: God loved you first. How will you love others?
Memory Verse: God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in
him will not die but will have eternal life. John 3:16, NIrV
Life App: Compassioncaring enough to do something about someone elses need.
Basic Truth: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

Welcome Time
What You Do:
Ask kids:
o Who are some people you love?
o Why do you love them?
o How do you treat someone you love? Are you kind to them? Do you give them hugs? Do
you call them mean names? Do you want to help them? Do you ignore them or not speak to
them? Do you share toys with them? Do you yell at them?
o Optional: For any yes or no questions, instead of saying yes, kids can make a heart with
their hands. To make a heart, instruct kids to press the pads of their thumbs together and
then touch the fingernails on their right hand with the corresponding fingernails on their left
hand.

Activity #1
What You Need: Circle of Love and The Story Activity Pages, glue or tape
What You Do:
Give each kid cut out Circle of Love Activity Pages
Give each kid a The Story Activity Page.
Kids will glue the picture to the corresponding story heading. Make sure you work together as a
group to match the picture to the story heading. A sample discussion is listed below:
#1 God Loved Us

#2 God Sent Jesus

Our Christmas story begins with the fact that God

loves us. God loves everyone! What would be a
good picture to glue in the box to show love?
(Encourage kids to think of the boxes during
Large Group.)

That is right! God sent us Jesus! God loves us so

much He sent us Jesus and Jesus took care of our
sin by dying on the cross. When we believe in
Jesus, we experience Gods love and we become
friends with God now and forever. What picture do
you think we should glue in this box? (Cross)

Thats right! Its a heart. But we have a problem.

Sometimes we dont obey God and when we dont
obey God, thats called sin. Can anyone give me
an example of sin? (When we lie, when we treat
others unkindly, etc.) Sin separates us from God,
but God doesnt want us to be separated from Him
and that leads us to the next part of our story.
What did God do to rescue us from sin? (Point to
the heading in the next box: God Sent Jesus.)

We know God loves us. Should we share Gods

love with others? Absolutely! Just like we learned
in our story today, God loved us, so (point to
the heading in the next box: We should love one
another.)

#4 Gods Love Spreads to Everyone

#3 We Should Love One Another

What picture should we glue in this box? (Crowd

of people) When we love one another, we show
people how much God loves them and Gods love
spreads.

One another is any person God has put in your

life. Can you give me an example of someone God
has put in your life? So what picture should we
glue in this box? (Stick person)
As we show Gods love to one another, what
happens? (Point to the heading in the next box:
Gods love spreads to everyone.)

What You Say:

You did a great job remembering our story today. God loves us so much and God wants us to love one
another. What are some ways you can show others you love them? (Treat others the way you want to
be treated, be kind, hug someone, share your toys, make them a picture, etc.) What great ideas! It is
important to remember: [Bottom Line] God loved you first. How will you love others? [Make It
Personal] (Share an example of when someone showed you love, or share a way you plan to
show someone Gods love this week.)

Activity #2
What You Do: Have the kids put their offerings into the large container and talk about how much
money they have collected. Do they think they can raise enough money to send to the families in
Uganda? Pass out the mosquito and Uganda coloring page and talk about the past two weeks activities
centered on the Bite Back campaign. What did they learn?

Activity #3
What You Need: Bibles
What You Do:
Help kids look up John 3:16 in their Bibles. Use the following tips if necessary.
Finding verses with 1st through 3rd graders: Guide them to open their Bibles to the front and find the table of
contents. (Hold up a Bible opened to the table of contents to show the kids what the page looks like.) When the kids
find the table of contents, lead them to find John in the list under New Testament. When the kids find John, lead
them to look at the page number beside the word. Explain that the number tells them on what page they can find
John. Help the kids find the page. When they find John, explain that the big numbers on the page are the chapter
numbers. Help them find chapter 3. Explain that the small numbers are verse numbers. Help them find verse 16 in
chapter 3.

Instruct kids to work together to come up with actions for the verse. Encourage them to be
creative, but to also make sure the actions go along with the words in some way.

What You Say:

Lets think for a minute about how well everyone worked together on this. Did you show love to each
other? (Give kids a few seconds to think.) Whatever we do during our day, we need to show love while
we do it. Its not always easy to do or to even think about doing, but its important that we show love to
others, like God shows His love to us. Our verse talks about how God loves us all so much that He sent
Jesus to earth to die for our sins and give us the opportunity to live with Him forever when we believe in
Him. [Bottom Line] God loved you first. How will you love others?
