In my career map, I have chosen a particular set of options for my four

years at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte that focus heavily on

the importance of professional development in the business world. The most
important way of preparing for my career once I leave the university, in my
opinion, is internships from major companies and corporations, especially
ones that have been recommended by the career center at UNCC. By
participating in workshops and conferences sponsored by the university and
local companies in the Charlotte
area,McConnell

interviewing and networking to better improve the impression I leave on
potential employers. I can leave a better impression on these recruiters and
possible employers by practicing proper business etiquette and making the
right connections within not just each company, but the industry as a whole.
I believe I have already made a good start in my freshman year, as I have
already starting making a connection to a very large aerospace company in
Charlotte that is one of the largest in the world. I have started networking
with the Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain at this company
which is a major head start.
Some of the most important skill building aspects of my preparation for
my career would be the efforts I have put in to improve my team working
abilities and leadership qualities. I have enhanced these skills by
participating in the Business Honors Program Retreat at Black Mountain
YMCA in September of 2015. Another major factor in keeping these qualities
in check would be my part time job. Although currently at Victory Lane

Indoor Karting, it is subject to change once either an internship is available or

a better opportunity appears. No matter where I am employed, I am able to
work on leadership and team building skills by working side by side with coworkers. I believe this helps improve my overall preparation for the
workforce when I am reading to start my career.
I have set in place the classes I will take that follow the Belk College of
Business Pre-Business Curriculum my freshman and sophomore year. Starting
junior year, I will declare my major as Operations and Supply Chain
Management and have listed the course necessary to obtain the degree
within four years. I have put into my career map enough flexibility to allow
for any possibilities that my goals are not met such as my grades in some
classes not going as high as I had anticipated or one class being unavailable
to take the semester I had originally planned on.
My main goals for my career map revolve around becoming a wellrounded business professional that is prepared for a career immediately after
graduation. My goal is to have a job lined up midway through my senior year
that has been set up by or at least aided by previous internships from junior,
senior or even sophomore year. I believe that in order to achieve success
with these goals, I must start preparations as early as possible by reaching
out to companies and recruiters and career fairs early, and be ahead of the
rest of the pack in order to be a stand-out candidate once graduation comes.
Of course, maintaining an overall GPA of 3.5 is of the highest importance. By
excelling in my majors core classes, I am better prepared for my future as

an Operations and Supply Chain Manager. Maintaining high grades is also

key in getting noticed by prospective employers who may be willing to offer
high paying internships or even a long-term networking opportunity that
leads endless potential once I start my career. I believe that through hard
work, professional development, and networking, I can achieve all of the
goals I have set for myself for the next four years.
