Why?
Ever since I first travelled to Uganda in 2012,
the word God has spoken to me is, Be still
and know that I am God. In the midst of
learning to be still and know Him, I have
learned to see things through His eyes, to
know His heart and to be His hands. I have
learned that my wisdom will fall short of His
wisdom and His plans.
When I first moved to Uganda, I prayed for God to connect me with community that
was full of His Spirit. Little did I know that his answer to that prayer would change my
life. At DOORS Ministry I met men, women and children who were rejected by men
but are now shining brightly with the love of Jesus. I became friends with those
whose hunger and thirst for Jesus compelled them to follow the leadership of the
Holy Spirit. I was given a place to sink my roots, to love with abandon and to lay my
life down.
How?
DOORS was birthed when the Lord said, Here is this need, I want to use you to meet
it Not when people said, God, I want to meet this need, so use me. Its a subtle
difference, but the first one is initiated and sustained by God.
God asked us to open a door of hope for the oppressed and downtrodden in
Uganda. How does this happen? The short answer is, Jesus. Weve found that by
awakening the wild love of Jesus in people, they begin to have the same hope we
have in Him, which overcomes every affliction. However, it takes reaching into their
lives, sharing joy with them, grieving with them, pouring the life God has given us
into them before they trust us enough that we can introduce them to Jesus. So we
bring children off the street and give them a home and teach them. We teach the
children, and their parents, in the slum so they dont go to the streets. We teach and
disciple new mothers and help them get the medical attention they need. We raise
food at our farm, both to feed them and to teach them how to grow their own. We
become their friends and family. As we enter into their lives, they see Jesus in us, and
easily receive Him into theirs.

What?
The first two times I was in Uganda, I asked God if I could stay.
I had come to love the people and felt connected to the ministry of DOORS. This past summer, when I returned to Uganda, I
was excited to be there but no longer had intentions to stay.
Then God began breathing life into the seed that was planted
years ago. Instead of asking God if I could stay, I heard him tell
me to make plans to move. To make a longer story short, I will
be moving to Uganda at the end January 2016 when I will step
into the role of Executive Director for DOORS MINISTRIES
(hispicketfence.blogspot.com).
