Abstract

Kiosk is one of the alternatives for people to gain information or do transaction

through electronic method. Normally, kiosks are designed together with the
related expert system to be interactive and efficient by using touch screen
technology with various functions such as transactional kiosk, informational kiosk
and services kiosk. Antenatal Diagnosis Kiosk is an advanced technology
proposed to strengthen primary antenatal care and management system in all
government clinics and hospitals in Malaysia. This sophisticated kiosk which
equipped with reliable expert system and specific devices is required to be selfservice for public especially patient to get access to antenatal diagnose or
information without any assistance of another person. It is designed to capture
physiological data on its clients blood pressure, pulse, body mass index (height
and weight) and temperature.

CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION
Background

Kiosk is acknowledged to simplified several process to ensure better services

towards customers. There are tremendous improvements on the implementation
of kiosk in Malaysia. Expert system or knowledge base system plays the
important role in these improvements. It uses human knowledge and experience
to solve a problem which can be solved by an expert in a reasonable length of
time. As result, the system able to enhance the productivity by helping others to
make decision and solve problems effectively.

In 2003, Maybank2u.com Internet Kiosk was introduced to Malaysian which

provides convenience for customers to access Maybank's financial portal at its
banking premises. Maybank is also the first bank in Malaysia to launch the
Internet Banking Kiosk concept where the bank provides the terminal to enable
customers to do their internet banking transactions (Maybank, 2003).

Briefly Area of Study

Hospital and clinic is one of the most important Government agencies and the
busiest place. According to Yutaka, Syoji & Hiroshi (2009), it is important for a
human being to practice daily health care and medical check in order to maintain
good health. Antenatal care is one of periodic health check up that must be
attended by all pregnant women all over the world.

Antenatal care is important to identify and manage any medical complications

and to screen for risk factors that may occurred on the progress of the pregnancy
and its outcome. Antenatal care has potential to reduce maternal and prenatal
mortality (Lucy and Andrew, 2010).

Problem Statement

Antenatal care consists of several different visits for the patient starting with the
first visit called booking visit, in order to assess and monitor the health status of
the mother as well as the infant and progress of the pregnancy. A complete
antenatal care consist about 12 to 14 visit during the pregnancy.

But there are still numbers of the pregnant women who discourage to seek
advice or even undergo a routine antenatal care in any government hospital or
clinic in Malaysia. It is all due to its poor services, insufficient of information and
also lack of system to help them. Most of the reasons are caused by a long
queue and standard process which required several of hours. Besides that,
patient can only perform routine such as registration and take queuing number
only on the specified working hour due to the dependency to the availability of
the officer to perform the task

Research Questions

Hospital and clinic are recognized as a health facility centre where patients
receive treatment. Based on traditional practice, patient are unable to make
better and informed decisions about their health since they are only given
information on a need to know basis. Several problems occurred in encouraging
users to take on the responsibility and play a more active role in achieving a
healthier lifestyle.

CHAPTER II: LITERATURE REVIEW

Kiosk Applications and Technologies

The evolutions of technologies are totally meant to simplify the certain task and
offer a better lifestyle. The usage of advanced computer applications are mostly
concerned on improvement of quality, efficiency and productivity of socioeconomic, academic, working as well as home life (K.Y Lim et al., 1998). The
development of Internet and World Wide Web has become the starting point from
information sharing to other sophisticated platform like on-line banking, egovernance, e-commerce, digital libraries etc (D.S Hui, G Ying, & Zhu Xue Qin,
2008).

Current Health System

The growth of information in the medical sectors is believed interrelated with the
need of an information system. Therefore, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is
used as a program to mange all the clinical and medical information
electronically. The implementation of the EMR is significant with the advances
desires in patient health care because these programs are designed to enhance
readability, availability, and data quality.
