Abstract
CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION
Background
Hospital and clinic is one of the most important Government agencies and the
busiest place. According to Yutaka, Syoji & Hiroshi (2009), it is important for a
human being to practice daily health care and medical check in order to maintain
good health. Antenatal care is one of periodic health check up that must be
attended by all pregnant women all over the world.
Problem Statement
Antenatal care consists of several different visits for the patient starting with the
first visit called booking visit, in order to assess and monitor the health status of
the mother as well as the infant and progress of the pregnancy. A complete
antenatal care consist about 12 to 14 visit during the pregnancy.
But there are still numbers of the pregnant women who discourage to seek
advice or even undergo a routine antenatal care in any government hospital or
clinic in Malaysia. It is all due to its poor services, insufficient of information and
also lack of system to help them. Most of the reasons are caused by a long
queue and standard process which required several of hours. Besides that,
patient can only perform routine such as registration and take queuing number
only on the specified working hour due to the dependency to the availability of
the officer to perform the task
Research Questions
Hospital and clinic are recognized as a health facility centre where patients
receive treatment. Based on traditional practice, patient are unable to make
better and informed decisions about their health since they are only given
information on a need to know basis. Several problems occurred in encouraging
users to take on the responsibility and play a more active role in achieving a
healthier lifestyle.
The evolutions of technologies are totally meant to simplify the certain task and
offer a better lifestyle. The usage of advanced computer applications are mostly
concerned on improvement of quality, efficiency and productivity of socioeconomic, academic, working as well as home life (K.Y Lim et al., 1998). The
development of Internet and World Wide Web has become the starting point from
information sharing to other sophisticated platform like on-line banking, egovernance, e-commerce, digital libraries etc (D.S Hui, G Ying, & Zhu Xue Qin,
2008).
The growth of information in the medical sectors is believed interrelated with the
need of an information system. Therefore, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is
used as a program to mange all the clinical and medical information
electronically. The implementation of the EMR is significant with the advances
desires in patient health care because these programs are designed to enhance
readability, availability, and data quality.
