Lesson Plan

Superheroes (Adjectives)

Realize that an adjective can be taken away.


Realize that adjective make sentences interesting
Recognize the adjectives in a sentence.
Add adjectives to a sentence.

Materials:

22 students (whole class)

SMART board
Adjective worksheets
White board
Dry erase markers

Subject Competency:
C4: To use language to communicate and learn.
o Students will work on this competency by participating in the class discussion and by

completing their worksheets. They will have to read the instructions on the worksheets in ord
to complete

o The students will have to use proper sentence structure to share relevant ideas/opinions with
teacher and their peers.

o Each student will be responsible to finish the task assigned without getting distracted.

Lesson

Introduction:
1. I will start by eliciting students prior knowledge about what a sentence is.
2. I will ask the students: What are the four things I absolutely need in a
sentence?
3. I will write the 4 components of a sentence down on the white board.
4. I will write then write 2 sentences on the SMART board:
a. The dog runs around the house.
b. The black dog runs around the dark and square house.
5. I will then ask the students if they have ever heard of adjectives before.
6. I will ask the students: What is the difference between these sentences?
7. I will elicit student thinking by asking questions like:
a. Which sentence gives you the most detail?
b. Which sentence is more interesting?

Development:
1. I will gather students in front of the SMART board in order to practice
working with adjectives.
2. Students will discover the Adjective Detective game.
3. After exploring this game, I will ask the students to go back to their seats.

Tasks:
1. I will distribute the superhero adjective sheets.
2. I will read over the instructions with the students in order to clarify any
confusion.
3. I will let the students work at their seats alone. Then, if the students are
working well, I will let them work in pairs. However, if a group is not focu
on the task at hand, I will ask them to separate.

distracted?)

If the students are too distracted and/or are not paying attention after
numerous attempts to get them refocused, I will ask them to go back to the
seats and to open their Language Power to pages 28-29-30-31-32-33. Once
they have finished these pages, they will work in their handwriting books o
their own.

Behavior
considerations:

o I will be using the same behavioural approach for all students. If
students talk or call out during the lesson, I will take off dojo point
any student bothers during SMART board time, I will ask them to g
back to their seat and I will take off dojo points. If the student keep
bothering, I will ask the student to give me their agenda and a note
be sent home.

Differentiation:

I will differentiate this lesson by asking the students with difficulty some
lower level questions. This will provide them the chance to participate and
will increase their confidence.

Assessment:

The worksheet, that the students will complete, will be a formative


assessment. All of the superhero sheets will be collected and stored in a
duotang. I will be grading this adjective sheet.
