A mesh in social condition
________________________
How?
-----1/ The superiority of Roman Catholic Church in existing society of France was a major setback. The
higher authority of church like Archbishop gained considerable power to influence society. They even
dominated the lower authority of church like clergymen. The most vehement character of this strata is
that their privileges. They possessed large property. But they never paid tax. Instead they levy tax on
common people called " tithe".
What we learned from this point
-----------------------We learned that-A/ Catholic church was very dominated.
B/ They led luxurious life .
C/ They possessed enormous property.
D/ They didn't pay tax.
E/They imposed tax on others.
What is the result?
________________
Obviously resentment of common people towards this privileged class.
Why?
______

Because they did not do anything but gained everything.

2/ Nobility
----------The nobility was also like the church authority. They occupied most of the royal offices. But never
utilised them in good way. They were exempted from tax and gained all royal privileges. They often
used offices for their individual benefit. They inflicted cruelty on the common people.
What we learned
----------------We learned that-1/ nobility consisted of feudals.
2/ they ignored duty and misused public offices.
3/ They were exempted from tax and led luxurious life.
4/ They were very oppressive.
What is the outcome?
____________________
Resentment of common people.
Why?
_____
Did nothing. Gained everything.
3/ Third estate
-------------It consisted bourgeois
What did they do?
They were involved in trade and commerce and were prosperous enough but dissatisfied.
Why?
Because the feudal and church did nothing but gained something from their income. They imposed
restrictions on their trade which prohibited their means of profit.
Bourgeoisie also consisted lawyers..doctors.. Etc.
They were educated. But their ambition was restricted by church and nobility. They wanted to occupy
political post but existing social privileges did not allow them.

Bourgeoisie also consisted artisans; labourers and peasants.

These are the groups who suffered most. The backwardness of agriculture system; high population;
low production; heavy taxes; oppression of ruling class ; unemployment made their life hell.
What we have learned

condition. They also wanted political privileges.
B/ The rich educated persons wanted to gain status and political rights but not fulfilled for the
dominance of church and nobility.
C/ The peasants and workers worked hard but gained nothing.
Outcome
--------Dissatisfaction and resentment.
Why?
-----The political; social ambition of most essential section of society were trampled by existing privileges
which were quite extravagant.
Suppose you are a matured member of your family. But your views are never given importance in
your family. What will be your condition? Compare it with the condition of rich businessman or
educated persons of France.
There are seven members of your family. Your sister needs 500 in week for parlour. You need 1000
in week for petrol in week. Your younger brother need 500 in week for spending with girl friend.
Your elderly sister requirement is dominos pizza after every alternate 2 days that costs around 1500
per week. Your youngest brother is asking for Tommy Hilfiger watch that will cost around 7000.
Your mother is planning for a weekend in nearby multiplex mall with latest movie that will cost
around 3000. Your girlfriend is demanding a high hill for which you need 2000. But who is the source
of income in your family? Your father. Others eat only sitting on his head. If your father has to fulfill
every requirement of everyone what will happen? Compare the situation with the church; nobility on
the one hand and peasants and businessman of France on the other hand.
Now hope everything is crystal clear why existing social conditions contributed latgely to uproar in
France.
