Premiered by Keith Kirchoff

For Piano and Electronics

Aaron Anderson
(2015)

Instrumentation:
1) Piano
2) Electronics
Duration:
5 15
Piano Preparation:
The lowest C# of the piano is to be prepared with 5 metal paper clips. Paper clips
are to be placed throughout the length of the string. The symbol indicates that the
string is to be plucked with the pianists finger. Be sure to pull vertically, and not hard
enough to damage the piano. The note should sustain naturally for approximately 10
seconds. If the sustain time is lower, remove a paper clip.
At measure 155, a felt piano tuners mute is to be inserted between the C-sharp
and C-natural strings. Ideally, this mute will be inserted into the section of the strings
closest to the performer, before the hammers. Place the mute far enough away from the
edge of the string to allow the C-sharp tone to remain prominent.
Electronics Preparation:
Minimum electronics include a laptop, headphones, audio-interface (with at least
four audio outputs), stereo audio sound system, and a trigger pedal. Additionally, the
piano may need to be amplified. The volume of the electronics should match that of the
piano. The pianist must wear headphones for the click track, when present. The
symbol indicates that the pedal is pressed. It is the composers suggestion that the trigger
pedal be placed to the left of the pianos existing pedals. Software for the piece will be
provided; no additional software is necessary.
