Discussion on the 6th Commandment

(Meaning, Values and Actions)

Self-evaluation and reflection: How do I

practice the virtue of faithfulness?

Think-Pair-Share (Review)
1. What is human sexuality?
2. What virtue do we have to
practice to value our sexuality?

Sexuality is the very expression - in words,

language, gestures and behavior - of persons as
man and woman.

Human sexuality is a gift from God.

However, what does sexuality have to

do with our discussion of the 6th and
9th Commandments?
How can these commandments be
applicable to us if we are not yet
married in the first place?

6th Commandment :
YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT
ADULTERY
(based on padlet activity)

Meaning

Virtues/ Values

Actions

The 6th Commandment forbids a married

person from entering into a sexual union with
a person other than his or her spouse.

It protects marriage and

family from the hurt and
destruction that are
caused by the infidelity
of husband or wife and
the break up of the
family.

Values and Actions:

- Husband and wife must
remain faithful to each other
so that the family may be
strong, united, and happy.

Values and Actions:

- Husband and wife are responsible for each
other throughout their lifelong and permanent
commitment / union. They are joined by God in
the Sacrament of Marriage.

Values and Actions:

- Children must support their
parents' love for each other.

Generally defined as the values of unfailingly remaining

loyal to someone or something and putting that loyalty
into consistent practice, regardless of difficult or
unfavorable circumstances.

CLOSURE
Examen
Let us examine ourselves by going back to the
past days of this week.
In silence
When were the moments when I was most able
to be faithful to my parents, siblings, and other
family members?
When were the moments when I was least able
to be faithful to my parents, siblings, and other
family members?
Thank God for the gift of faithfulness
