My Brochure

This is my tri-fold brochure design for a mock art

museum exhibit about Mayan culture. Behind the
front logo you can see a painting of a Mayan battle
scene, fitting for my brochure category Mayan
weapons, which you will see identified at the bot-
tom of the cover. The Algerian font we chose for
the headings has an ancient, hieroglyphic feel to it,
so we felt it was best suited for our topic of Mayan
Culture.

I decided to make the inside back cover an area for

a child reader to draw a design of his/her own Ma-
yan weapon. The “client agenda” (2) is to design
the brochure to please a child, and children love
to draw. The Algerian font heading is consistent
with the rest of the brochure, and for the descrip-
tive text, the group decided to go with a Geneva/
Tahoma font that is legible and simple and more
appealing for a child. Next we can see a cartoon
pencil above the white area where the child is
meant to doodle.
I chose to show three different weapons that would
be featured at the exhibit, an Atatl, a Maquahuitl
and a sickle. I tried to remain as simple and kid-
friendly as possible, centering the page elements
and avoiding having them meet with the bindings
of the brochure. Added to each page is a heading
with the title of the weapon in Algerian font, bold,
at the very top of each page. Below the heading you
can see a picture or illustration of each weapon.
Beneath the pictures I chose to provide some edu-
cational information, including how the weapon is
used, how it is designed, etc. Along with the info
is a humorous comment at the end of each caption
to encourage the child reader to laugh. I chose to
design each page with big pictures and big font,
simply because children have a short attention span
and no patience to skim through a lot of text and
information on each page. Generally the convention
(3) children’s literature is featured in large font with
mostly pictures.
