You've Got the Time a Great Success in Kentucky

Twenty-eight churches in Kentucky have (or will) participated in "You've Got the Time." This
Bible listening program is sponsored by Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, in partnership with
Faith Comes by Hearing. Many Kentucky churches have listened to scripture during the
Lenten season. Others will listen later. Here are two testimonials from churches that have

participated with You've Got the Time.

First Baptist Church, Middlesboro, Kentucky

By Matt DuVall, Pastor

We decided to participate in this new opportunity because we

wanted to hear the scriptures in a new way. We offered our
congregation several ways to participate in listening through
the New Testament. Of course everyone had a "free" copy
given to them that they were able to listen to at their
pace. Some of our technology-challenged members had a
hard time figuring out the difference between a regular CD
and an mp3 formatted CD, but most figured out some way to
play the disc.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday, we have held listening sessions

at the noon hour and in the late afternoon to offer corporate
opportunities to listen through the New Testament. We have also used our Wednesday night
Bible study time as well as our Sunday night Bible study time as an opportunity to listen
together. We generally begin each corporate session with a time of silence or prayer to
center us, and then after listening, we talk for a few minutes about what we heard and what
spoke to our lives where we are today. In our listening together, we have encountered the
word made flesh that dwells among us.

Freeman Thompson said of this experience: "Listening to the readings of the New Testament
has been an inspiration to me. Hearing the different voices has made the scriptures come
alive. I look forward, with anticipation, to each of our listening sessions. This new way of
encountering the Scriptures has aroused a deeper desire to be more faithful in my study of
the Bible."

Barbara Asher said: "You've Got the Time" is an amazing project. It has added a whole new
dimension to Bible study for me. I haven't been faithful in reading the Bible every day, but
this format has helped me to focus and get into the habit of being more disciplined. To think
of people all over the world also being able to hear the Bible in the same way, at the same
time, and in their own language, and to think of all the work and planning that went into
this project is mind boggling. I am so glad that our church is participating. Thanks to all
who had a part in promoting the idea."

Trinity Baptist Church, Lexington

By Jay Robison, Pastor

I am glad to add some testimony regarding "You've Got

the Time." This is one of the finest things Cooperative
Baptist Fellowship has ever done. It shows our

2 of 16 4/1/10 4:59 PM
April eNews from Kentucky Baptist Fellowship http://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview...

commitment to the Bible, which those who are against us

have questioned. There are many people at Trinity who
love God and our church but I am convinced really do not
spend time in God's word. You've Got the Time has helped
us creatively challenge people to take a next step in their
walk with God.

Peyton, a middle-schooler, said, "I have enjoyed the CD.

It inspires me. I listen to it and learn about God when I am doing chores or homework. I
want to tell everyone to listen to it each day."

We have used the Proclaimer to read our scripture for the sermons over the past several
weeks. Doing this has shown us how they can be used around the world. I thank God that
we have been able to distribute the discs in several languages including Spanish, French,
Swahili, and Lingala. This is very important because some of our worshipers could hear the
Bible in their heart language. And all of this was done at no cost to us!

I have listened to much of the New Testament through a link on our website. From a
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship webinar I heard about having a tangible expression of
accountability and commitment. At Trinity we have two Mosaics at the front of our
sanctuary. Each week children and Adults add a piece of paper for each day or book
they have read. We have people who commute to work every day that are now working
through the New Testament for a second time!

Youth from Broadway Baptist (Louisville), Crescent Hill Baptist (Louisville), First Baptist
(Shepherdsville), Highland Baptist (Louisville), and Ridgewood Baptist (Louisville) spent the
weekend of March 19-20 in fellowship, worship, and on mission in the Nada and Booneville
communities.Fifty youth and adults participated in community clean-up, beautifcation,
children's crafts, senior adult bingo, and building new relationships with friends from
Louisville, Nada and Booneville. Thanks to the work and planning of Paula Settle, and Emilee
Causey, this weekend of service was a great time for all.

Morocco crackdown on Christian Aid workers impacts

EEAM
Beginning on March 8, Moroccan authorities ordered the deportation of dozens of foreign
Christian aid workers in at least five major cities in Morocco. What had been a long-standing
truce between Muslims and Christians was now being called into question. The largest
incident took place at the Village of Hope Orphanage in Ain Leuh. The 33 abandoned
children were separated from their adoptive parents because the Moroccan
authorities accused the orphanage and its volunteers of spreading Christianity, a major
offense in Morocco.

April eNews from Kentucky Baptist Fellowship http://ui.constantcontact.com/visualeditor/visual_editor_preview...

This difficult news impacts our friends who are directly involved with both the EEAM and the
Village of Hope in Ain Leuh. Additionally, some of our friends who are members of
congregations either as students or refugees in the EEAM congregations have been targets
and have been deported.

The KBF, CBF, and others are heartbroken over this latest news and continue to listen to our
friends along with other leaders for ways which we can assist. As for now, we are asked to
pray and to tell the story of this crackdown in a factual manner so that we can help bring
positive change to a challenging situation.

Ben Newell Leads Mountain Hope Community Development

Conference

Ben Newell, CBF Field Personnel for Together For Hope, Arkansas
encouraged participants to discover the assets of the Nada and Owsley
County communities. On Friday, March 12, almost 50 participants from
the local communities and churches who will be volunteering this
summer gathered at First Baptist Church in Winchester for the annual
Mountain Hope Community Development Conference sponsored by
Kentucky Baptist Fellowship. Ben divided the room into breakout
groups to discover their own assets based on their community.

The groups
discovered there

are many local

assets in these communities, assets
like the Gorgeous Gals of Nada who
create and sell jewelry or the
resources offered through the Owsley
County Action Team. Identifying
assets like these in Nada and Owsley
County can help local leaders work
together with churches and concerned
people toward a hopeful future. The
conference continues to be a
wonderful gathering for leaders to learn from one another and grow in our shared burden for
these communities. Special thanks to Paula Settle, Keith Stillwell, Becky Colliver, Emilee
Causey, and First Baptist Winchester for helping to organize the conference.

Chuck Bugg to Provide Leadership Consultation in

Kentucky
The Coordinating Council of the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship
unanimously approved entering into an agreement with
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and Dr. Chuck Bugg. Dr. Bugg
will be a leadership consultant for Cooperative Baptist
Fellowship and Kentucky Baptist Fellowship. He will assist in
leadership development, networking and assisting churches
and ministers during transitions.

John Lepper, Coordinator of Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, said:

"Chuck Bugg is an outstanding churchman, professor and
preacher. He retired this past May from Gardner Webb and is in
the process of moving back to Kentucky. He has been interim pastor over 20 times.
Additionally, he has received training as an Intentional Interim. He will greatly assist pastors
and churches during times of transition and also by providing leadership training and
consultation."

According to a Memorandum of Understanding, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship has agreed to

pay a small salary. Kentucky Baptist Fellowship will provide Dr. Bugg with office space and
some expense money. He plans to attend the Spring Gathering in Stanford and will be
available to churches and church leaders later this summer.

Coordinating Council to Recommend Membership in

Kentucky Council of Churches

Those present in the business session at the Spring Gathering in Stanford (April 24), will
have an opportunity to vote on a recommendation by the Coordinating Council that
Kentucky Baptist Fellowship move from observer status to full membership. Kentucky
Baptist Fellowship has been an "observer" in the Kentucky Council of Churches for several
years. In recent months, the Networking/Communication work group of the Coordinating
Council, Bob Coons, Chair, has studied the possibility of a more active participation with
Kentucky Council of Churches.

On behalf of his work group, Bob Coons, recommended at the March Coordinating Council
meeting that Kentucky Baptist Fellowship move from observer status with the KCC to full
membership. It was approved unanimously by the Coordinating Council that this
recommendation be brought to the full body in session at the Spring Gathering.

Dr. Marian McClure Taylor, Executive Director of the Kentucky Council of Churches, met with
leadership of Kentucky Baptist Fellowship on several occasions in the past several months,
and also spoke to the Coordinating Council in its March meeting.

Dr. McClure Taylor shared information about the Kentucky Council of Churches, starting with
the simple question, "Why should KBF cooperate?" She answered that question by saying
that KBF cooperation with Kentucky Council of Churches is a logical step from the
cooperation already happening in Kentucky Baptist Fellowship.

Dr. Taylor gave a brief history of the ecumenical movement, beginning in 1910 at the World
Missionary Conference in Edinburgh. Over time, the ecumenical movement continued to
work together in partnership and friendship in missions and service. Kentucky Council of
Churches was established in 1947, succeeding the Kentucky Sunday School Union, which
began in 1865. Over its 133-year history, KCC has sought to extend the ministry of Christ
by expressing unity in Christ and enabling cooperative ministry, especially in Christian public
service. Kentucky Council of Churches hopes to continue that tradition of partnership and
friendship with its eleven denominations, other affiliations and congregations.

At this point, Kentucky Council of Churches is re-visioning what it needs to be and do in

Kentucky and possible ways people can come together to work and serve. John Lepper,
Coordinator of KBF, serves on that visioning team.

Kentucky Council of Churches will have a display table at our Spring Gathering and Dr.
Marian McClure Taylor will be present during the Friday afternoon and Evening sessions and
will be on hand to answer questions. Chris Skidmore, Associate Director, will also be
present on Friday and will lead a breakout workshop on Saturday.
